Have you tried DVio? Maybe AMcap?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

well, movie maker is for XP, i'm using a fat32 2000 system. DVio doesn't support multi segment, but i will give amcap a whirl in the morning.

Are you running win 2000? Your computer details says win98-w2k but from your last post I assume, which I hate to do, your runnign win2000. If this is the case, why not move to NTFS instead of FAT32. Then your file size is only limited by your volumn size? Just a thought I don't know if you have considered.

yeah, it's all a bit complicated. i use two (sometimes a third) machines for a/v stuff. this machine is 98, is used for internet and games and overnight as an encoder. its an athlon 650. the other machine is under the TV, it's a Via mini-itx machine (teeny tiny!) with a firewire card, running 2000 (as i couldn't get firewire to work under 98) so at the moment i need to use fat32 so my 98 machine can access the files after they have been captured, and to pu the files back on the via machine, as that's where my DVD burner is. it now looks as though i'll put 2000 on this machine as well (the third machine i have is 2000 as well, so it'll all match up) as this will fix all my troubles it would seem.

ok I understand now. I used win98 se editing video and the fat32 situation was a pain. For a 1 hr home video, I would make 4, 15 min .avi then make my .mpg's, then merge the 4 .mpg's for my final video. It was a pain but it worked for me. About a month ago I finally got the currage to go to XP. Using NTFS and I love it. No more file size limits and SO FAR XP has been more stable, if ya know what I mean.

well, i ended up changin everything around, now the capturing computer is 2000, and this machine is XP, with all the graphical gunk turned off. 2000 wouldn't actually run on this machine, weird.
