I have been making cracking VCDs and SVCDs using Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI and TMPG. I am about to upgrade my computer and get a DVD rewriter so I want to switch to making DVDRs. I am probably going to go for the Sony DRX500.

Which method do people think is the best? I have a Mustek DVD V560 which plays just about everything. I have bought TMPG so it would be nice to still get my use out of that.

    Any advice gratefuuly received.

There are lots of new programs out there that will allow you to copy dvd-5 to dvd-9 in one step i.e. Instant Copy 7, DVD2ONE, DVD2DVDR. I used to make dvd's with tmpgenc but I switched to DVD2ONE, it makes (without menus) dvd-5 to dvd-9 copies in 30min where tmpgenc would take 5-7 hours. Instant Copy 7 will make full dvd-9 to dvd-5 copies in about 4 hours. They both have favorable results. However, if you insist on using tmpgenc you will need to ust dvd2avi and ifoedit to complete the conversion of a dvd-9 disk. Good luck!!!

If you want to make a true DVD with TMPGEnc the old fashion way and re-author for a personal touch see below. I like to still make my favorite ones the old fashion way. Re encoding each frame will always make better quality but at the cost of time [and not as much diff anymore]. All the new programs are great and I am using both DVD2one and Instant Copy now also, but sometimes you just want to re-author so we don't forget how. LOL 8)
