has retail version of this drive... saw them this Monday. But they've hiked the price up to £299 as they know how like gold they are.

I was happy enough to get an OEM version for £245 from www.computerorbit.co.uk their website says none in stock but I rang and they had 6 in stock!

:P Refresh Computers have a number of the retail version in stock at the moment I believe priced at a reasonable £256.15 Inc Vat (+ postage). I got my DRU-500A mail order from them a fortnight ago and my advice would definately be to buy one - It's a superb burner - not a single coaster so far! If you want one you'd better hurry!

    8) Brendan - You're most welcome mate!

I notice they're selling the AX version as well which means (I think - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!) that it should ship with the latest 1.0g firmware which will save you a firmware flashing job. Mine was the 500A version with 1.0d firmware although the firmware update was a fairly painless affair!

As I said before the drive is absolutely superb! I made a copy of a DVD5 (Ali G Bling Bling) Using DVD Decrypter on 4x Verbatim DVD+R media that took less that 20 mins from start to finish! I have also authored some home DV footage including fully working DVD menus using Pinnacle Studio 8 onto DVD-R that plays brilliantly on my DVD player (Panasonic RV32) - would recommend this drive to anbody wanting to get a DVD burner.

Just had a butchers at the Refresh website and they're stock levels are down from 26 units this morning to 16 now so as you can see you have to get in there pretty sharp!

You're correct Brendan in saying that these forums are fantastic with regard the help and advice that you can get from them - as essential a part of life in the 21st century as the mobile phone - in other words how did we ever used to cope without them!

Enjoy your burner when you get it!

I should also at this stage thank Rob 'cos it was his original post which put me onto Refresh in the 1st place - this after I'd tried just about everywhere possible to get hold of Retail boxed product - so Rob cheers for that!
