  4. yes it does work...depending on what version ps2 you have. I have a version 4 and i backed-up xXx and it didnt work on mine, tried it in a standalone dvd player and worked, then tried my brother's version 7 ps2 and worked. i'm not sure about any other version.

  5. i have a ps2 v4 and it plays dvd-r....but keep in mind that the ps2 laser is very picky about media being used. i tried to play a dvd-r movie burned on a unbranded media and it would take some of the time and if it did take it, then it would play it with choppy frames. then i started to buy ritek media and my ps2 loves 'um.

  6. there are a lot of people whining about this version ps2 or that version ps2. Can anyone give me a confirmation on this stuff or do these people just not know how to make a dvd.

  7. i think any ps2 plays dvd-r movies..its just the media that people use. if people use good quality media like ritek, apple, etc. then the ps2 laser shouldnt have a problem reading the data from the disc. it all comes down to the quality of the media. cause my friends have different version of the ps2 and they all play dvd-r movies flawlessly(on good quality of media of course).

  8. what about -rw

  9. i know that the only way the ps2 can read dvd-rw(games) is if its modded with the magic 3.1, although i dont know if this implies to movies as well. i havent tested it out yet sense im gonna take mine back to get it installed with the magic sense messiahs are somewhat incompatible with the v4 machines.

  10. If you have a old PS2 it will only play DVD-R if you have a new one it will play DVD-R DVD-RW and DVD+R and DVD+RW. Sony has change the lense in the PS2

  11. yeah, spiderman, that may be the problem i had because my dvd burner writes dvd+r/rw and not -r/rw.

  12. Ok I made the disc, a DVD-RW. First I tried it in a version 1or2 playstation and it says disc read error. Then i tried it in a version 5 playstation. It gets to the menu. Then the first trailer, then the second trailer, but it freezes up when it gets to the main movie. I erased the disc tried again. Same thing. Burned on a DVD-R, same thing except in the old playstation it spun infinitley and never gave any messages. The disc plays perfectly in ATI Dvd player, windvd, and power dvd. What could be causing it to freeze when it gets to the movie in the PS2?

Does this sound like the fault of the PS2 or the disc?

  13. i have a v4 and mine is picky on media cause i used to burn movies and games on unbranded dvd-r media and it would sometimes take 'em but with stuttering of the frames. then i change to quality media and now my problems have erased . maybe try high quality media and see if that helps.

  14. Try using the Samsung BeAll media. They seem to work very well for PS2 and XBOX. You can get them at www.meritline.com

  15. yeah but if it was media, it wouldnt freeze up at the exact same spot on two different discs would it? becaue it freezes up at the very beginning of the movie, which is the fourth title, cuz of three trailers. I do not think it is authoring or encoding, cuz then it wouldnt work right in the pc.

  16. If the movie works flawlessly in the PC doesn't mean that there isn't authoring problems. The PC (Software DVD Player) tolerates alot more errors than set top players, PS2 and XBOX.

I've have also seen instances where the DVD played fine on the PC, but it depended upon the media I chose which made it work in other players. Some media played weird but the Samsung BeAll media has been pretty good so far and its sold and marketed for PS2.

The only way to tell is to try different scenarios (media) until you figure it out.
