  1. Anyway to speed 42 up guys? I know about speed-forty two up, the program, but when i drag 42 onto the program it doesn't open 42, it just asks for an admin pass then nothing happens. I have both in the same location too, directory wise. I'm just wondering cuz it took me 3 days to convert HEAT, a 3 hour movie, from DVD to DVD-R at 3500 or so kbits rate. Now I have 768 RAM, 867 G4.....? Is this normal? Just curious? What are normal times for people? and how do i get that damn speed forty two up to work? I just drag 42, the program, onto it like it says in the README right? that's what i did and nothin happened I know it's not supported by you guys, i.e. kai bilestyle, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

  2. Well, as a comparison, it took me 45 hours to do Swingers DVD > SVCD (standard default settings) on my G3 600 640MB. I think Swingers is aboout 90 mins long

  4. K i'm at work now so i can't try this, but can i just open a terminal and do a renice pid -18 or something to increase the priority on mpeg2enc? will this help? is this what speed 42 up does? I would probably even be able to go -20 cuz i don't use my comp all fricking day. Well let me know if you guys have tried "renice" on with mpeg2enc or mplayer on 42 and if so, since im' of minor unix experience, would -20 significantly slow down my system if i was trying to use it? i'm assuming since it would make 42 the highest priority i would experience some slowdown.....can i change the priority when i want to use my computer more? Like just when i get home from work renice it back to 0 or something? That'd be a sweet solution to my speed problems. Thanks guys! Also how much fast would the encoding be if i did this?

  7. nope i didn't see nothing about not renic'ing or nic'ing in the readme, so i did. I put mpeg2enc at -20 priority good shit. I am encoding about 1.3333 times faster, maybe more......i put mpeg2enc at a -20, mplayer at a -10 and yuv and cat at a -5 cuz i figured they were working with 42 as well since they were a) grouped with it and b) i have nothing else open Well we'll see the results in an hour, i am almost done encoding anyways so i won't benefit a whole lot from this. I'll keep you guys posted! if it works i'll post the steps to do it for ya newbies.

  8. The fact that it *isn't* doing this renicing for you is a bug, and will be addressed. It should be.
