Hello. I captured an old vhs tape through a digital camera using pinnacle studio 8. I have to change this file to MPEG2 if I want to put it on a DVD right? I just downloaded TMPGEnc and followed the guide like it said. The problem is that is says it will take around 7 hours to complete. Is this normal or am I doing something way wrong? What is the best way to make a good DVD from an old VHS tape? Your input will be much appreciated.
My system:
pinnacle studio 8 capture card
650MHZ AMD Athlon processor
320mb ram
40gig hard drive
verbatim DVD+r/rw burner

7 hours would be a dream for me. It usually takes anywhere from 20 - 35 hours for me when I use TMPGE.

7 hours is average for normal movie length.
For a short movie I have 6-7 hours for a longer I need around 8 hours.
So your doing nothing wrong.
I mostly convert it when I'm asleep
