With my work schedule I don't have a lot of time for stuff so I want the easiest solution available. The DVD Decrypter method for DVD-5 movies is so damn simple...just throw in DVD2ONE and RecordMax for DVD-9 flicks and I'm set...so darn simple! Quality looks as good as the original to me. How much can you lose from a 5-6GB movie going down to 4.5Gb?

Wrong! CCE is very efficient, and can encode as fast with a lowly 500mhz P3 as TMPGenc does with a much faster processor.

Yes, but who the hell uses Intel?

CCE is not a good standalone encoder (needing AVIsynth to run correctly).
Wrong, I almost never use AVIsynth. CCE is a great standalone encoder - I would venture to go ahead and say that IT IS THE BEST standalone encoder.

    Bollix!

    CCE is very user unfriendly.
LOL! It took me minutes to learn the basics of CCE, and I can setup an encode in seconds. Then CCE takes care of the rest producing an mpeg2 output file far superior to anything you can get with DVD2ONE. If you want good quality with more automation, try DVD2DVDR or InstantCopy, which give better quality than DVD2ONE.

  6. don't forget Road to Perdition. I said dv2one is superior than InstantCopy in this instance. Because IC could only get it to around 3.62GB. If IC fixed their calculations then it'd win.

I think I've pretty much decided on 5.2GB as my threshold. If DVDToolbox reports the size of the movie + AC-3 6CH audio and subs is 5.2GB or less (but higher than 4.37GB) then I'll use dvd2one. If it's greater than 5.2GB than I'll use InstantCopy. If I can get it below 4.37GB then I use DVDToolBox which is twice as fast as dvd2one (8mins vs. 15mins)

In other words I'm only going to let dvd2one transcode and reduce it by around 800MB or so. Anything more I don't think I'll like the results. Gladiator is 6.22GB so that is definitely IC7 no questions about it.

yes, that's on films with the black bars within the frames, mostly 2.35:1, non-anamorphic which RTP unfortunately is, so a few more movies are affected by the 'black hole' bug in IC

I'm lucky and got in early and got a 'free' copy of DVDToolbox, in fact I used it when it first came on the scene a few months ago and found it great to use before IC came on the scene and gave me the option of menus also with very high quality results

I agree with mrbass if it's less than 4.37Gb why use DVD2One unless you want menu's?
