    Hi everyone.

How I can get a 720x480 preview? Take a look at my computer specs and tell me how! I can capture at 720x480 without problems but I need to disable the preview. Up to 352x240 I can capture and preview at same time.

    Please help me
    Thanks in advance

    Okay:
what capture software: any (virtualdub, iuvcr, amcap...)
what codec: any too (I don't think codec is needed to preview)
what is the error: when I try to watch in 720x480 it gaves a distorced image. only part of the top of the image is streched to the full screen
    what is the source: composite
what filters: none, I'm just trying to watch tv in full resolution!

try the program dscaler (found in the tools section) it uses it's own drivers to talk to your capture card, and it has a load of useful filters if you're using the card to watch live TV (such as deinterlace, noise reduction, gamma correction, and masking) or showshifter, it has the functionality of dscaler, using it's filters, with a more friendly user interface, and it captures, too. showshifter is not free however, i think it's about $30, but there's a free trial.

Your computer monitor can't display Interlaced video unless you run an interlaced resolution (640x480@256 colors, a VERY old resolution, don't try it). And 720x480 from a capture card is interlaced.

So, you need to change your settings, because a lot of people display 720x480 in IUVCR. Make sure you have the current WDM drivers installed. What you want to do is display the preview in 'overlay' mode ( assuming you video card supports that, so anything from the last 3 years that isn't super cheap will). Overlay means the video goes directly to your card and isn't processed per se. IUVCR has seperate preview and capture settings, so make sure your preview is set correctly (default is 352x240?). Overlay also uses a LOT less CPU cycles versus rendering the video to display it.

VDUB is a whole different issue, since it's not WDM compliet without the wrapper. It uses VFW drivers.

Another stupid note, if your previewing in 720x480, you should be in at least 800x600 resolution, if not 1024x768 (all 24 or 32 bit). I know that sounds silly, but you would be suprised how many people don't know what resolution they are running.
