  1. Hi, I've got the following Problem while I am trying to create a VCD.

I downloaded a file from the web (ca. 100MB) with the suffix .mpg.
While watching it with QuickTime (6.1) it stops after ca. 1 Minute. When I move the indicator manually back to the beginning new scenes are showed.
When I am trying to Toast a VCD (Toast 5.1.4) It says no audio track.

My proceeding: First of all I use Rosetta to fix the large file and get 26 small files (some of them are playable some not)

Then I use bbDEMUX(1.2.2) to get the audio and the Videotrack seperated and get 26 Audio and 26 Video tracks

Then I use MissingMpegTools0.9.1 to join them together again and to create toastable MPG files. If i insert the VCD into my player the clips seem to run with 29.7 fps instead 25 PLUS audio and vidoe are out of sync.

I have already tried to join the audio tracks into one large Track as well as I tried the same with the Videotrack to get one consecutive file. It failed.

I worked for 4 weeks on this problem (because this is kind of a pilot-project for to clear my HD). Can anyone render assistance??

Funny enough: the original file runs quite fine when I try to watch it with Windows-Media-Player on Virtual PC.

I dont want to do all the work with Virtual PC because my Mac @ Home isn't the fastest.

BTW I am Using a G4 Quicksilver 2x1000 (no mirrored doors) and OS X 10.1.4 @ Work where I whish to do all the big Stuff

Any Help would be wolcome. THX

  2. Seems to be a "bad" Mpeg you downloaded from the web.

If you open the movie in Quicktime figure out what FPS it gots by using the information window.

Use FFmpgX to reencode the movie using the orig movies FPS settings.

I did it with a bad working AVI file. FFmpgX recognised it well and I reencoded it as a NTSC-MPG2 at a good quality Kbit/Rate setting .... the picture quality was the same as the original and it worked.

something has damaged your MPEG headers. I strongly recommend staying far far away from Rosetta. That program is bloated, doesn't work half of the time, and is erroneous.

    You have other options.

First of all, try running your original MPEG file thorugh VCD Gear applying a MPEG 2 MPEG conversion and see if that will fix your problem.

It seems like it could be a bad MPEG file fro mthe get go, but I'm afraid I do not 100% understand your problem or what you have done already.

  6. The main problem is that the files will show only a few seconds on my mac. On a PC these files run much longer (BTW in the cropping menu of DiVa i can see much more as well). so my first task is to find a way to see the entire movie on the mac.

The second step is to find a way to get those repaired files properly on a VCD.

when I did this with an intact file from the same series (playing all through the film from the beginning with no need to doctor them) It sounded like the film was played with 29.7 instead 24 fps (high pitched voices) when i inserted it to my DVD Player. I suppose that is due to the fact that these Files are probably NTSC an I posess a PAL Player.

Do what Zero Six suggested. Use VCD Gear and do a MPEG 2 MPEG conversion and report back on the results. That has fixed almost all of my MPEG problems.

  8. All right here we go: First of all I tried to mpg2mpg the large file, but to no avail. It still stopped too early. Then I used the "Fix" option from Rosetta and got my twentysomething chunks from the original file.
Then I did mpg2mpg each single one of them and hooray!! It worked.. Then I joined them back togehter with rosetta.

So far so good. haven't been THAT far.

Now I tried to use Toast to create a VCD, but no success. Probably this stuff needs to be demuxed.

Will try that over the next few days.. BUT can anyone tell me where to find a more In-Depth manual for VCDGear?? The one attached to it is a little sparse.

Probably I can do all that I want with it. Same thing with the command to mpg2mpg several listed files.. how to list them, I didn't understand that.

Help is welcome, and thanks again folks, you brought me a giant leap forward
