I rip out the VOBs and then want to take them to DVD2AVI.
The files import and I want to take them the result to TPMGE to encode to a MPEG-2 file so that I can burn it with ULEAD and make my own menu.
When I have to save in DVD2AVI should I used no compression?
Also, is this an effective method for quality? I keep reading all about DVD2ONE and stuff like that.
I already have TMPGE plus so I can encode TV captures to DVD, so I would prefer to not drop 40-50 bucks on DVD2ONE if I already have the functionality. I don't mind letting the movie encode when I go to be for 4 hours, so that is no big deal to me.
Thanks as usual to everybody

After opening the vobs in dvd2avi you should be selecting ' save project', *not* 'save avi'.
This creates an ac3 file (audio file - 5.1 not supported in TMPGEnc, converted to 2ch) and a .d2v file (video).
There is an excellent guide here:
Sefy for President!
Please bear in mind the TMPGEnc option does not supprt subtitles. If it does, it's news to me (buts omeone else might be able to help)
I used this method for an age before going with dvd2one, but I still use TMPGEnc for all avi captures to mpeg2/dvd *and* multi-episodes using Ulead Movie Factory.
And four hours to encode?
Yep, if it's a one hour movie.
I'm averaging four times the running length (ie 8hrs encoding per 2hr movie, VBR 4000kb/sec) *just* for TMPGEnc, and I have a Athlon XP2000+ which isn't the fastest but is by no means the slowest.
As for quality I haven't tested the differences between tmpgenc (which I love) and dvd2one (which I love too!). Frankly I don't care - they both produce great results for me

Save project, save AVI, you know what i mean! (sorry about that, got my saves confused)
And when I said 4 hours, that was a guess, but 8 hours is fine too!
I was mostly looking for a report on quality problems, and I figued it would be ok, just wanted to get an opinion before investing the time.
I do have one more question if you don't mind. When you converted in TMPGE, what percent of the disc did you set the file to occupy if you made your own menu? I figured putting it around 4.1 GB would make it safe.
Thanks -
