I have a tv episode which is broken into five mpeg1 files.

What is the best/easiest way to turn those files into a VCD?

    Or even better...

How could I take several episodes and put them on a DVD to watch on my set-top DVD player? I'd rather not use several CD's for a few episodes that can fit on one DVD.

I searched through the forums for answers, but alas no luck.

Sorry for the newbie question! Thanks for anyhelp!

  2. I'm rather confused, are you trying to do a VCD or a DVD ? how large are
those MPG files, to combine them, it's rather easy, you can use MPEG Tools
in TMPGEnc, but i'm not familiar with VCD on DVDR media, as I don't have
    a DVD Burner.

What I'm trying to do is to make a VCD from a tv episode.

This episode is in five (5) mpeg1 files. The files range from around 25MB to no more than 120MB. The total length (time) of the whole episode is around 45 min, well within the time and file size restraints of the VCD format.

What I would like to know is how to take these mpeg1 files, and turn them into a VCD. I don't really want to combine the files, only if it will make this whole process easier. The site I get the episodes from says I can use each file as a track on a VCD, creating a "chapter-like" system on the VCD.

The part about the DVD (which it sounds like you understood) is that I would like to be able to put several episodes onto a DVD so I don't have to use multiple CDs for only a few episodes.

  4. Regarding the "Chapter-Like" remark, if you use several files, you will indeed
create a "chapter-like" movie, however, it's not true chapters, and you'l get a
    slight pause between each part.

Combining all the MPEG files into a single file, and then adding chpater points
will give you a single file with True Chapters (and no pauses) on the movie.

Regarding on how to do it on a DVD, i'm afraid I got no experience here, i'll
let the other "big guns" answer that one! good luck!

Might have a little help with one of the options...

The mpg files could be combined, mostly chaptered, to a VCD using the app "VCD Builder." It does have a pretty easy interface, and actually burns the disk right out of the program.

Some of the mpg files I've tried this way have not been accepted by this app until I take them and "fix" them with VCDGear first. Depends on how they were encoded to start with, some work, some don't until fixed.

For the DVD option, may have to use QuickTime to save as a DVStream, then you should be able to bring into iDVD...not sure about Studio Pro, not one that I own.
