  1. I'm still looking at purchasing all the equipment necessary to convert all my VHS tapes to DVD+R. I find that "+R" is more compatible on players than "-" is.
Anyhow, I currently use a stand-alone unit from a VCR, I am now looking to add to my computer so I can make the full motion/animated menus but have a question on the capture cards..

I don't have a DV camcorder or any kind of camcorder for that matter, is there something I can buy that will input my VCR using RCA connections and then convert it to DV so I can transfer the DV into my computer.

Also, I have been looking at Pinnacle DV Studio for authoring software, how is it?

Any good capture card can accept your VCR video if the card has a RCA jacks for video and audio.

Then with simple freeware programs like Virtual Dub, FreeVCR (see the Tools section at left), or sometimes the capture card comes bundled with good capture software, you can start capturing your video from your VCR into your computer.

Now conversion. For this, you need an encoder. There is a program called TMPGEnc (TEMP-genk) that can convert your captured video from whatever it is to an DVD MPEG-2 file.

This file can be burned with a DVD burbner into a DVD.

Remember to read the newbie guides first, as the help answer many questions. Some of them you did not even know you had.

Canopus make a couple of boxes/cards that are analog to digital convertors that will convert your vcr's output to DV which can be input to your PC via a firewire card. I have the Canopus ADVC 100 with a cheapo firewire card makes a good capture combination with nil dropped frames, nil audio sync problems and nil driver worries. I have'nt used the Pinnacle software as I have found the Ulead Videostudio 6 SE that was bundled with the firewire card to be adequite.
