I have source DV with 720x576 and I frameserve it from Premiere's timeline to CCE. How to encode it to DVD in half DVD resolution (352x576)? In TMPGEnc is easy but in CCE I didn't find any option for half DVD resolution. Should I resize the clip with avisynth and then frameserve it to CCE? I tried but I get 352x576 picture on TV, it is not full screen.
I also tried the option half horizontal resolution but I get very messy picture.
    Please, help me...

  3. CCE's resizing tools apparently do not work very well, I have never actually used them. Resize in Avisynth or whatever you are frameserving from. I'm in NTSC, but 352x576 should play fine, some Software players may not display correctly but PAL DVD player should, it is valid 1/2 D1.

  4. Anytime I use CCE, I use dvd2svcd from www.dvd2svcd.org. I pull in the clip using dvd2avi(DVD), mpeg, or avi, then set up how I want the output to work and have had no problems at all. I have not personall tried a dv source, but you ought to give it a try and see what happens.

After few more experiments, I managed to solve the problem. How? I resize the source clip with avisynth script:
    AVIsource("c:\FileName.avi").BilinearResize(352,57 6)
and in CCE settings "DVD compliant" has to be UNCHECKED. If this is checked, the video is not full screen on TV, otherwise it is fullscreen.
    Bye...

Use the 'Half' options in CCE, under the VIDEO button. You have one for Vertical, and Horizontal, giving you any valid DVD resolution. If your video is 720 horizontal or 704 horizontal, it will be resized to 352. Selecting both Half D1 vertical, and horizontal will give you 352x240.

These resolutions are possible using these options (sizes are in NTSC):

    720x480 (704x480)
    352x480
    352x240

The resize used in CCE is high quality, and faster than frameserving in AVISynth. I verified this with tests a week or two ago.

If you use the DVD compliant button, CCE will letterbox your video, if it doesn't match one of the resolutions (e.g. if your video is 640x480, CCE will letterbox the sides of the video to flush out the resolution to 720). You should avoid this option, unless that is your intention. If your video is already using a compliant resolution, this option does nothing.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
