  1. Hi guys..
I had this problem some times, the original dvd is damaged (maybe would have more problems if I copy anything from the videoclub ).
I have a dru-500a that I use to rip the dvd, using smartriper or dvddecripter sometimes the reader fails to read the disc and doesn't continue with riping, have tried some configurations in dvddecripetr with no results.
I had the same problems with old cds and solved making a cd image (.nrg) with Nero and then burn again in another cd, but.. dvd9 have more capacity than i can put in a dvd-r (yes I made a 7 gb image from the damaged original, just can't use it for anything).

Can anyone give a hand ?!... Thanks.

  2. I've been backing up my daughter's Disney stuff. Needless to say, she's scratched the hell out of them... she's four, and does *not* listen when you tell her to let her parents handle the discs. She's independantly stubborn

Anyhoo, here's what I've done when I have a disc that's having trouble being read from.

    1. Check the disc. Sometimes, it's just stubborn fingerprints. If it's a scratch on the label side, you're pretty much screwed. If they're deep enough, data has been removed. (this is more true for PC games than DVDs but it's still an issue) If the scratch is on the bottom (laser) side, it may be fixable. Get one of those disc repair kits. Disc Doctor or Disc Rx. Usually you can buff out minor imperfections enough for it to be read.

    2. Before using a repair kit, though, try using a different DVD-Rom. I've had several discs that my old Creative 8x refused to read that would read perfectly in my Pioneer 104. The writer rips slow, but slow read is better than no read.

    Hope this is of help.

This isn't a perfect solution but here is what I do after exhausting all other approaches.

I use DVD2DVD-R and leave out the Cell that is causing the problem. That removes a small amount of the film from your final product. This can be from 4 to 7 minutes typically. As I say, this is a last resort.

Clean the disk throughly using soap and water, then a window cleaner. Apply a furniture PASTE WAX (I use TREWAX) to the thing and buff it as shiny as you can get it. Use more than one application of the wax if the first doesn't work. You can use robw's method as a last resort.

  5. if its about scratches, there is something you can do,
it sounds silly but it worked for me.
    so here it goes...

cover the dvd disk with toothpaste (yes, thats right..)
and leave the disk for about 7 minuts to dry.

now wash off the toothpaste with plain ordinery water
and dry the disk with a clean rag or something.

it worked for me on a disk with a scratch that made the disk click all
    over the place.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE

  6. You can try ro fix them with a DISC Doctor some time's they have a different name in the store's. You put the Disc and and turn the wheel and it take's of a layer of the disc. I have one it's worth the $30.00 buck's

Just wondering about this method, is it safe? I mean sometimes the drive can get pretty hot/warm, and on top of that it is spinning at a high rate of speed, is there any issue of getting some of the wax in your drive?
    Blah, blah, blah

LMAO, can I just use SuperGlue instead? I think that would stick all of the scratches together as one, and allow me to at least have a shot at getting it to play. If that doesn't work, I won't spend money on that "trewax", I'll just go outside to one of the palm trees and rub the bottom of the disks on one of the fallen coconuts, then the disk should work, being that it's been fed.

But then you have to explain to your wife why you've got hold of the cat while having a wank over a disk.

She'd have her bags under one arm, the baby under another and out the door quicker than I could get to the kleenex, I wouldn't be able to explain!
