Hey
Here's this weeks problem.....
When I rip and convert with dvd2svcd it sometimes can't completed the ripping of the vob files...it says there is an error and that it is reverting to slow mode. It usaully rips at about 4000kbs per second so last night I started ripping TWO TOWERS and went to bed ....I awoke at 4 in the morning only to discover that it stopped ripping the first vob file and was ripping at -32kbs....(what the ????) These are DVD purchased from the asian market and when they play they studder abit so I would assume it is the file that is corrupt.
this problem has also occurred in professional studio brought DVD's ie fatboy slim live brighton beach.
Any insight to either how to get around it or even what to do....
Ohh by the way I hear that DVD ripping can damage your rom. I have an LG DVD CDR-RW combo drive and haven't noticed anything but I am a little concerned

Okay, I've never heard that DVD ripping hurts your ROM. I rip constantly, and have never noticed any issues. All it's doing is reading the DVD, copying and decoding along the way from the disk to your HD.
Okay, as for DVD2SVCD, the ripping on there isn't very good, because I've had that problem all the time (well, I actually don't use it that often). Use SmartRipper ( http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm ) because it does the job well and fast. Once the VOBs are on your HD, then just do DVD2SVCD like normal. Just instead, make sure you tick off the "rip DVD" checkbox, and just load the nfo file on your HD.
You can also do what I do, which is give it as much space as possible, by putting the ripped DVD on a separate HD (if you have one) and then loading it up from the other HD. Then you just set the default output folder for your pri-HD and it will use the VOBs on the other HD as a source. This way, those 6GB worth of VOBs won't take up valuable space you may need to encode.
Hope that helps.´¯°·-»· Å®¢hVïl£ ·«-·´¯°
