Do most US DVD players playback PAL?

I'm about to sell DVDs and was going to offer to ship to America also, but the DVDs I am going to sell are in PAL format and I wanted to know if most US DVD players playback this format. I know that most (all) UK ones playback NTSC format (although in B&W if your TV doesn't support it) but I want to know if US ones do the same.

I understand that there will either be some cropping or stretching going on though. Are there any other side effects I might not be aware of? What about US TVs? Do most newer ones have PAL support? What symptoms would people get that would tell them that their TV isn't APL compatible (ie B&W on UK ones for NTSC).

Do you mean will a DVD player display a PAL DVD onto an NTSC TV? No. 99.9% will not. And since they are all regioned locked, you will need a PAL DVD for the same region. That is, someone in the US will need a DVD Player that is region free(some are, or can be made region free).

Generally speaking, out of regiaon PAL DVD's are a PC only proposition in the US.

Well they would be region free, but my main concern was if the DVD players playback the PAL format at all. I'm assuming then that most new NTSC TVs don't even support PAL format either then (like new UK ones support NTSC for example).

It would be a shame if it is only a PC option for the US/Canada because they would probably be my main market.

If you have a DVD player that can play back PAL discs without the ability to convert to NTSC, you would need a multisystem TV.

PAL/NTSC TV's are virutally unheard of in the US. Hard to find and very expensive.

That's a real shame. I either need to think about converting the discs to NTSC which wouldn't be very good as the source is PAL and the conversion is not easy/good, or lose out on US customers.
