  1. i bought a pent 4, 1.5 gig cpu, gf4 ti4200 and have 768 RAM, lotsa£££££!
i have just converted my first vid file, it was xvid, i used TMGenc, virtualdub and vcd easy. it has come out fine(ish). sound is completly in sync with the video, but the film is slightly jumpy/pausey, barely noticable(at least, so my wife says), but im a perfectionist, so it is REALLY noticable! i have my video card linked to my tv, and i played the original file which is perfect, my vcd is not not bad though for my 1st attemt at this game

No pal, not bad at all
I converted home movies of my (now one year old) son to vcd and was quite happy with the resulst.
We filmed him once a month so there was quite a bit.
Now I have a dvd burner I'm having to do it all in dvd format, capturing editing, encoding - the lot!
I captured the first six episodes of Friends Series Nine from the tv at 720 x 576 dvd/mpeg2 and burnt it last night - my first real attempt at a dvd captured from digital tv.
Whilst is was far, far better than vhs I was hoping it would be better - will have to try a higher capture quality rate!

  3. NO REAL SOLUTION

if u read the TMPGE help files, it states that files that were not created using TMPGE may suffer audio sync problems.

they have no solution for it.

a fast PC does help, but I use a P4 2.5ghz and I still get lots of sync errors, 1 reason why I have given up on this type of stuff.

the BEST solution is to buy a real time DVD+R recorder.

when they drop in price, they are going to take over from all this home PC stuff that doesnt even work properly.

    Boogs.

    Don't talk rubbish.
The day they offer the same kind of editing I can achieve is the day I buy one.
We're not all recording from the tv and copying Blockbuster dvd's.

  5. editing ?

well, yes, if you have AT LEAST 4 GB of RAM ( more than most boards take ) then u might get away without SYNC errors, but as soon as Windows has to page to HD - forget it.......

Besides if youre editing a lot, you would probably use something like Adobe Premier anyway, not TMPGE etc

also, the dvd+r recorders DO ALLOW lots of editing anyway, and they give u perfect picture and audio quality.

far far superior to PC capture cards

and at about $500 US for a Philips DVDR860, its a LOT less than 4gb ram !

I know what i would choose

    :P

I found, that any audio bitrate > 192 Kbit/s will produce out of sync after authoring.I have now the second DVD produced with tmpgenc which plays perfectly as mpeg, but will be out of sync after authoring.I'm now reconverting it with 192 Kbit/s Audio and author.I'll report on the findings.

    Hi.
The UK one's have no editing function whatsoever, they *start* at $700-ish and I wouldn't dream of using TMPGEnc to edit.
Far far superior to PC capture cards?
    Yep, totally agree for quality.
Maybe I'm just pissed I don't have one

  8. hi,

well i dont have one either !

i know someone who has one, and the picture from a VHS copy is actually better than the tape, it seems to enhance the black and remove the 'dots'.....

however, I could not extract the movie from these DVD+R discs, after 99% it gave a read error (tried different discs)

so, i will wait until they come down to the £ 200 uk price

    may take some time

oh - what do u use for editing ? TMPGE is only any good with smaller files, give it a 4gb file and sync is always out

(It needs really 4gb + of ram )

    Boogs.
