  1. Hi, I just bought a Cendyne DVR-105 and some maxell DVD-RWs to burn on. The drive is 4Xdvd-r and 2X dvd-rw. The Maxell media is burning fine, its burning at 1x and my cendyne dvd burner reads it just fine, but I have not been able to read it in any other dvd-rom or stand alone that I have tried. I also tried backing up one of my dvds and it worked fine, my cendyne can read it as a dvd, but the unmodded xbox tells me that the movie is the wrong region. Other dvd-roms just spin the disk up then say that the drive is empty. Is there a reason why no other drive can read dvd-rws? Am I doing something wrong, or is it the maxell media or can dvd-rws not be read by non dvd burners? Thanks for any responses.

  2. I have tested a DVD-RW recording on A104 computer burner and it read fine on a Apex 500WM standalone DVD player.

Never tested DVD-RW on panasonic dmr-e30 standalone DVD recorder just DVD-RAM so far.

DVD-RAM is not readable by standalone players to my knowledge.

My DVD-RW brand was memorex by the way and was just the first one I could find in a local store to experiment with.

No real intention by me to ever use an erasable format just have them as test discs.

I use cheap write once DVD-R media to transfer video from Tape and record off air programs.

    What files are you burning?
What mode are you burning in?
    Give more details please.

  4. I actually meant to post this in the dvd burner section but I was trying to backup one of my dvds and also author some video that I created myself. But even with just plain data, no other dvd-rom is able to read the disk. What do you mean by mode? Thanks.

    How is the disc formatted?

    Fat32
    UDF 1.2
    UDF 1.5
    UDF 2.0???

Right click on the disc in Windows Explorer (in the computer that burned it) and check out the file system.

It is possible that the DVD drives in the other computers are un-able to read a DVD-RW.

It is porbably a good idea to go ahead and post in the DVD Burning section too, as there are many more experienced people there.
