ive got the pioneer 104 (uk) and am still using the 1.20 firmware would it be ok to upgrade to the latest 1.40,i heard that the 1.33 upgrade sucked,any good advice from anyone much appreciated.

I just upgraded to 1.4. I think there was an article on pioneer's web site about the firmware upgrade. If I remember correctly, the newer high speed disc can damage the drive, that's why the firmware update came out.

thanks for that,i forgot to say that i still want the choice to burn at x1 (i think its the safest way,less errors on playback) even on x2 and x4 media.does the 1.40 support this?

I don't know for sure if it supports the choice of 1x or 2x burn, have not tried to burn anything yet,working on a project currently and will burn in a day or two. I would hope that it would give you the choice. I would say if you are never going to burn anything faster than 1x and your not having problems, don't upgrade yet. Just my 2 cents

Yes it still burns fine I've been using it for a while now, just go for it.
