  1. Hello all, I am not new to DVD ripping but I am new to DVD-RAM ripping. I have both smartripper and DVDdecryptor. I do have a Toshiba DVD-ROM with DVD-RAM reading capabilities that I watch on my computer. I make DVD-RAM video on my Panasonic HS2 standalone recorder. I want to put the DVD-RAM files on my HD so that I can author them to DVD-R. When trying to rip smartripper says "no DVD" and Decryptor says "ERROR". Can anyone tell me how to get the files onto my HD so that I can put them onto DVD-R? Thanks

I am interested in this too.

Anyone out there had any success? Also, has anyone been able to burn back to DVD-RAM from a PC and play it in the HS2?

    Thanks,
    Tearren

There isn't anything to 'rip', it's not encrypted, and I don't believe it's in VOB form on an HS2? Just copy over the MPG file? Whether or not you can do anything at all with the MPG is another story, it may be proprietary?

  5. Hi saw your post a few days ago but had to register to post and wait three days so now i can finaly post.

I have a Pannasonic E30 DVD recorder and had the same query with ram as you. Through searching, I have found this way; and I this works fine for me.

    1. Record your DVD-Ram on your Panasonic.
    2. Put the Ram computer drive and open it. You will see three files:
    .bup file
    .ifo file
    .vro file
The main recording is on the .vro file. (make sure you have "show file extensions for know file types" active or you won't see the file types)
    3. Not sure if you have win98 or XP. XP will be no probs, but win98's 4Gig limit is. If you have win98 then you will have to work from the ram. If you have XP then copy the .vro file onto your hardrive (makes it faster to work with).
    4. Rename the .vro extension to.mpg.
    5. Once you have this you then will need a program to edit the file. The only one I know of and use myself is "Ulead DVD workshop" but it isn't cheap. With this you can bring the file in and add a menu and chapters. Also edit it, but this will make Ulead re-encode the file, so beware. If you need a hand getting hold of Ulead then leave your E-Mail and I'll help you find a copy.
    5. Once this is done you can then burn it using "Record Now Max" as i find again this tobe the best for compatibility.

If you need anymore guidance then feel free to continue the thread.

  6. How do you look at what files are on the disc? I tried double clicking my drive that plays the DVD-RAM and it is empty showing 1.99 GB used. Do I have do do anything on the Panny recorder like formatting or anything so that the files will come up on my comp? Or should they be coming up by clicking the drive once in the comp?

Didn't your drives come with software for use with DVD-RAM? Try the manufacturer's web site for software. You can also try this link, but it is for Panasonic drives. http://www.panasonic.co.jp/dvdram/lim/eoem/index.html
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  9. When I installed the ram drive on my comp it set itself up as two drives. One as a usual letter drive "E" or whatever, and one as a removable disk on another letter. I just click on the removable drive to get at the files. Can't help you anymore than that as it just installed itself that way.
I have win98 by the way.
Village idiots idear is the best I can sugest also.

  10. I appreciate all the help and response although I have no solution. Those links are for upgrades if you have a panny DVD-RAM drive burner but I do not. I have a standalone panny DVD-RAM recorder and am reading the DVD-RAM on my computer with a "play only" drive that happens to read DVD-RAM to play but I cannot retrieve files from it. I have a Pioneer AO4 burner that I want to use to burn onto DVD-R. I know that it won't come out as VTS files but I was hoping I could pull some files that I may run through DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc, in order to put onto DVD-R. Maybe it is not possible with the setup I have?
