I'm trying to get either Cable or DirecTV for my new SONY TV. I would like to know, which one has the sharper/better picture or the same? What is the PROS/CONS on each.
Thanks.

i prefer cable because i get more local channels and can access it from any of the 7 ports in the house.
we have cable tv on our computer, in the living room and my bedroom.
satellite requires me to pay for local channels extra.
also cable internet. -
i preffer sattellite... you get better picture and sound... better tv guide... more channel and specially porn...

If you want quanlity of image and sound go get DirecTV. The box have all output, RF, RCA and S-video cable. It's great for capture using computer.
The Cable TV give you fixible of more local channels and don't need any device box to control, but for the Digital cable TV you need the Box which can not beat the DirecTV in the quanlity.
I have both but I'm going to cancel the Cable TV. -

Hi! FYI..I realized that before I posted, but this section is the most closet category I know lots cool TV geek can answer and non-biased rather then go to directv.com or att.com.

Anyways, I just ordered AT&T basic cable channels to try it out. I'll let you all know how it goes.

hello zyx! i am a die hard satelite fan. i have used cox cable then i looked into direct tv. had direct for about 8 months then i decided to switch to dish network. for me, dish network is as good as it gets. i have ALOT more channels for ALOT lower price than if i had all of them on cable. i have a small antenna that allows me to get my locals. great for capturing and they have an hdtv reciever ready for the future. i will stay with dish for as long as i can. two problems. one is if it storms heavy, i get NO tv till it passes but i mean THICK CLOUD COVER. second thing i can forsee is that dish network is in the process of trying to buy direct tv. if that happens then there will be no competion for them. they will be a monopoly and guess what then? Higher prices for their service. if it gets to high then cable might be the choice then.. we will see.....

i remember reading that directtv has got a promotion thru blockbuster video called "Para Todos" where u pay $10, get all the hardware (receiver, dish, etc.), installation, 52 DVD/video rentals. then u could just sign up for most channels for about $46/month for only a 4 month trial period.

Had cox cable for 12 years, Dishnet has the best deal going, 2 receivers, 2 remotes and sat dish & installation all free with one year sign up, more than pleased with it, and new customers can get a TIVO dishnet box for an extra $49 now.
I could not get rid of cable fast enough as soon as my sat was hooked up and on. -
The new digital cable offering in my area is quite good. And the pricing is competitive because of the competition from Dish and DirectTV. Right now I subscribe to a movie package that offers 43 digital movie channels for $19.95 per month. That is of course in addition to the basic cable cost. But 43 digital movie channels is alot of movies. The source quality is excellent for capture. And because capturing from digital cable is simply time shifting it is legal to do. And it works regardless of the weather or cloud cover (so far anyways). No rain fade. Its one of the reasons I prefer to capture as opposed to just ripping DVD's.

It doesn't get much better than this.
Get digital cable or Dish/Direct as soon as you can.
I had 13 HBO channels up until last week. I called my cable company to inquire about the cost of adding more premium channels. When I was done I picked up a total of 43 digital channels for another 7 bucks a month. I love competition. I love capitalism.
In the last 24 hours I have capped M*A*S*H, It Takes a Thief, The Thomas Crown Affair, Band of Brothers, and Mean Streets. It doesn't get any better. All to SVCD off of digital cable. The quality is excellent.
Ripping is OK for the new stuff but sharpen your capturing skills if you want to build a library. -
i watch my local channels alot and i really like getting all of them on cable.
plus i can have up to 8 outlets in my house.
and their's cable internet. -
is there a way to hack directTV so that when I have the equipment, I don't have to pay a monthly fee?
-
why pay for it when everything is broadcasted on the sky, why don't you pay for your air?
-
cable is alright, sat. is better, but for the best you gotta get the digital cable, cheaper, then sat. and has the same quality, it not better, depending on who u get it from. so if u can, get digital cable.

Digital Cable is just as good as DirectTV. It's pretty much the same thing now.

i had a friend of mine who used to hack the smart cards. yes, they have cracked down on it. i think it was last super bowl right before the game, a signal was sent to ALL recievers with hacked cards and fried the cards. alot of people didn't see the game. i'd just pay for it. much eisier and you don't have to worry about being zapped..... -
