  1. Can you please answer this? Honestly, whats the main difference.? I read something about it, and it mentioned....

DVD+R's has some better features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.

    What does this mean?

Why are dvd-r much cheaper than dvd+r?
    What can a dvd+r do that a dvd-r cant?

  2. bernard, this question should of been asked on the "media" forum. Someone with more expertise may answer this question more specifically, but you would probably get a faster response if you did a web search for the differences between the two. I don't know where you live, but in the United States, DVD-R's and DVD+R's are usually the same price. If anything, I've read that DVD+R's are generally less expensive, but from all the main retailers i've gone to, they are approximately the same price.

Some general information on the two, are that the DVD+R media have not yet been "accepted" by the DVD FORUM, while the DVD-R's are the "accepted" format. If you do a search, you will probably see that doesn't mean a whole lot. DVD+R's appear to be more versatile from my understanding. You can on average write to them faster, (which right now may not be a good thing anyway) and I do believe I read somewhere that you can leave the session open with certain software such as RecordNow Max, and add to them later. Very similar to a DVD+RW in that regard.

Basically, for the most part, you will be able to do the same exact thing with a DVD-R as you could with a DVD+R. Being that the "accepted" DVD-R format has been around longer, you would probably want to use those as the majority of the older standalone players will be more compatible with them. I hope this answered your question. If not, check out a search on the web and you will probably learn everything you want to know.

DVD-R has been around longer - it takes time for companies to decide to jump in and tool up. They follow the money also.

I noticed that Best Buy has more promotional sales on DVD+R. Not sure if they support +R more than -R.

I sure hope DVD-R is the global choice to bring prices down, faster.

I've noticed that too, but I think the only reason for that is because until recently 2.4x was the fastest a DVD+R could burn at. Now, DVD+R media at 4x is out and I think Best Buy wants to clear out that 2.4x media for the newer/faster 4x media.

They probably do... but just because Best Buy is promoting a particular product or technology over another, doesn't mean a whole lot in the great scheme of things. Does the name DataPlay mean anything to anyone?
