Ok, well I've got a Sony-DRU500a v1.0f and have burned about 60+ discs so far. 50 were a pack of Accu 2x's (LeadData), 5 were Memorex 2.4 +R's, 5 were Maxell 2.4x +R's and a couple of this new spindle of supposed Accu 2x's (same link, but these are lighter purple dye and read as Sony vs LeadData). Well I have enclosed a link to show you how the 'Sony' reads on my Liteon 163 (16x) DVD-rom drive. On my standalone it plays fine and in the Sony it reads stable to the end (2x for video, 4x for data). Now the LeadData's I burned read fine to the end (4.3 gigs), BUT the Memorex and Maxell's also get chirpy near the end (tho they overall speed is 2x as fast for +R I've noticed.
So basically the ONLY discs that I've burned that nero gives smooth graphs to the end on my dvd-rom drive was that 50pack spindle of leaddata. Which seems WEIRD since the memorex and maxell should have been fine. They *ALL* play fine in my standalone dvd player from beginning to end. I burned a data disc with one of the sony's (divx's) and the divx that's on the outermost edge will play fine if i dont skip thru it. When I skip thru it (jump from scene to scene) it will take nearly 2 mins to catchup (This is on a P4 2.0A 1024MB DDR system), while my DRU-500 can skip thru it fine.
I have a pack of Apple 2x DVD-R's which I'm going to test out once I get some more stuff to burn, and I'm also going to try out some Ritek G03's and some Taiyo Yuden's. (Like a 25 pack of each). However, looking prelim. at the graph does this look like bad media or just an issue with my dvd-rom drive not liking all types of DVD-r's. It will read it 100% with no errors...but not smoothly as you can tell. In my standalone the movie played fine to the end and I could fast-forward the end (the last part of the disc) and skip scenes and it didn't give me any problems. I was going to return the discs, but if it's an issue with my ROM drive, then it wouldn't be worth the 15% restocking fee and headache. I guess I could just use ALL of them for movies and use another type of disc for data, but that seems opposite of what should happen with media (usu it would have more trouble being a dvd-video disc than a data one...) ?? Any suggestions? Help? Good media for this drive? I think the apple's will work out good, but they only sell em in stupid 5 packs.
