lip sync trouble when converting mpeg to avu

I have some mpeg files i want to convert to avi but when i do the lip sync goes way off. I have tried repairing it with avi fix, but it doesn work most times. Sometimes its just parts of the file that go off. but most times it starts out fine but by the end th elip sync it way off. what do i need to do to fix htis problem. I am using virtualdub to do this process. I have tried using flaskmpeg and it worked once but not again.

Try TMPGEnc. Load the MPEG file, select File-->Output to file-->AVI file.
