I've had unbelievable results using DVD2SVCD with CCE encoding to copy DVD chapters to SVCD on CD-RW discs. So good, in fact, that I've had people think the SVCD on the CD-RW was a DVD. One of the things that really amazes me is that it only takes just under 160MB for every 15 minutes of play.

Now - I've had the impression that there was some way to use the same programs when converting captured MPEG-2 files to SVCD. I've tried this to no avail, so I figure either I need some help or it can't be done. I don't have any problem frameserving TMPGEnc with DVD2AVI, but I really like the way DVD2SVCD is set up much better. I also think the results of using CCE as the encoder blow TMPGEnc away from a PQ to size standpoint.

    What should/can I do?

    Really???

I appreciate you trying to help, but maybe you didn't read the part of the SVCD spec that says it is constrained to 1500-2500 kbit/s? MPEG-2, on the other hand, does not have that limitation. The (S)(X)VCD standards have more to do with resolution and bitrate, while the MPEG specs have no such limitations.

If you had a better understanding of the MPEG specs, you would not have said "duh", and you may not have had anything to post.

    To everybody else:

I have MPEG-2 files from capturing at up to 8 Mbit/s and from my ReplayTV at up to 12 Mbit/s. What I'm hoping to do is re-encode these as efficiently as possible to get approx 60 minutes of SVCD on each CD-RW disc.

    Thanks,

    Tim
