  1. If you don't want to read the long paragraph below, please recommend me a dvd authoring program that has few issues with it and takes non-complaint mpeg 2 files(VCD resolution and 1500 bitrate).

I'm in the process of transfering vhs captures and mepg files onto dvd. So far the only authoring program that I've used is dvd moviefactory. The mpegs are encoded in MPEG 2 with VCD resolution and bitrates of about 1500. The files themselves play fine on my computer and movie factory takes them without a problem. However, my dvd burning success rate has only been about 30%. Out of the 7 dvd's I've used only, 2 works correctly. The other 5 play the first couple chapters fine but towards the end, the chapters would freeze in the middle or not play at all. I now create a dvd image and run it on my emulated dvd drive. I was to lazy to do a test on the last chapters and the first couple play fine. I suspect its ULEAD DVD Movie Factory causing the problems. I've used Memorex DVD media and Ritek G03 and both have the same problems. Im burning using a Pioneer A05. I'm using windows xp. I author with dvd moviefactory and burn the image with nero. I reformatted my hd, but that didn't help.

  2. Before you give up on Moviefactory, you may want to change media. Use a different brand of DVDR and see what happens. The problem you described sounds like it could very well be caused by cheap media.

And always test on a DVD RW first until you know your method is perfect!

  3. I've tried it on Ritek G03(most people have no issues with this "cheap media") and memorex dvd-r, which were manufactured by taiyo yuden, a quality company. Both have had issues like this. I know to try it on dvd-rw, and when I though I got it, errors occur. Its very annoying and time consuming to burn on to dvd-rw first then test it and then burn to dvd-r. It would take me about 3 hours to compile the image, burn the image to dvd-rw, test it, image on my hd and then burn it to dvd-r. Yet I am tired of wasting money on dvd-r because they weren't burned correctly. I wouldn't really mind if they were cdr, but dvd-r costs alot of money.

  5. their was post about dvd media a while ago as many people were having freeze up and glitch problems with memorex dvds, for whatever reason they started glitching, and they used to work fine. We think either a hughe massive defective shipping got out, or something was changed in the ink at wherever they are made. either way I will no longer use them

try maxell and fuji dvd-rs they work great and i have had no problems with them
