Hi Guys, I am hoping to transfer VHS footage to DVD and have the chance to get my hands on Adobe Premiere 6.5.
Is Adobe Premiere all that is needed to author a DVD after you have captured your files. I have read posts where people use Adobe Premiere and then other software to create titles etc. This leads me to believe that Adobe is not a complete package or must be lacking somewhere. Is this the case??
Also, many reviews state that the learning curve is very steep for Premiere so am I better off to bang my head against a wall with Adobe or try some other packages??![]()

It is true you can capture, edit, and other things with Adobe Premiere, but burning DVDs is not one of them. You will authoring software for that, like DVDecryptor (freeware).
Since you seem to be new at this, I would strongly recommend two things. First read the Newbie guides to avoid asking a lot of questions, and avoid making too many mistakes. Second, use DVD-RWs. If you are new to this hobby, be prepared redo disk after disk. Using DVD-RWs make it so much cheaper, since they are reuseable.Hello. -
There's nothing wrong with Adobe Premiere, personally I like Ulead Media Studio better (sort of like Adobe Premiere with after effects build in). I think it's more user friendly and easier to use/work.
I like to use DVD Maestro to author my DVDs. Again Ulead DVD Work Shop is another popular choice.
Basically what you want to do is: 1) Capture VHS tapes to HD, 2) Edit as necessary with Adobe Premiere, 3) Author DVD, 4) Burn Discs
There are faqs for all this to the left (different faqs for each step).
Also remember that going from VHS -> DVD will not improve the quaility of your material (just archive it). Getting a single DVD-RW discs is a good idea, because there are a lot of things that can go wrong. However, it's possible to play your authored DVD from your HD prior to burning. If you check all your buttons, lay outs, streams, etc. then odds are the actually burning will not be a problem (unless you try to use Nero)
