I'm capturing video using a ProVideo 256T MPEG capture card. It captures in 100% compliant MPEG format so I can burn this straight to DVD using DVD Maestro.
The problem being, that some of the clips, the field order seems to have been swapped. The settings for all the video sections are identical, but sometimes, it appears as though the field order has swapped and the output is jerky on the TV. I have to waste a DVD to find this out each time as the PC displays the video as progressive output and I've yet to find an app that will allow me to see each field individually or emulate a TV output for example.
How is it possible for a hardware capture card to change the order it is encoding the fields? I'm using PAL so it should always be field 1 (top field) first and the hardware should know this.
Is there a way of finding out if the fields have been swapped BEFORE I have to burn a disk to find out? I'd be grateful if someone could suggest a program. My Wharfedale doesn't seem to like any of my +RW or -RW else I could use them to test it out.
Could someone also please suggest an app to fix the problem? Would DVD2AVI with "VIDEO -> FIELD SWAP" enabled fix the problem? I'm pretty sure the only way is either to recapture or re-encode the 'faulty' stream with something like TMPEGenc.
