gobama/others:
The error about a user SID subscription blah blah basically means it can't decode the audio stream. For me, the problem was because I was running via Remote Desktop / Terminal Services on windows. You need to make sure you have a sound card, and that it is working, else you will get that crazy error on preview or encode.
It drove me nuts till I figured it out![]()
I REALLY hope they fix this, otherwise it rules out anyone using Remote Desktop, and that's the way I use my main PC 99% of the time!! (Pinnacle are you listening?)

Hello there,
I have tried the (TRIAL) version of InstantCopy on Band of Brothers Disc 1, and it worked out fine!!! All the menu's Subs and Audio are working well. The 5 minute AC3 limitation is NOT working in this version. So download it while U can!!! Okay this isn't the best way to copy a DVD in HIGH quality, but it is most likely the EASIEST way. -
Thought I would post a comparison time. On a P4 2.66 GHZ machine I did a 134 minute movie start to finish (DVD Decrypter, DVD2DVD-R, Maestro, Gear Pro for burn) in 6.5 hours.
Based on results (by others) InstantCopy (DVD Decrypter, InstantCopy, Burn) would likely take 2.5 hours or so. At the risk of inflaming, I feel it is probably a majority view that quality stacks up in an order that parallels the encode time
............................Time.................. .Quality...........Product
DVD2One..............1.25 hr................C+................main feature only
InstantCopy...........2.5 hr.................B+................main or full
DVD2DVD-R..........6.5 hr...................A..................main feature only
Original.................n/a.......................A+................full -
I think ur being a little hard on dvd2one but it seemed like a fair comparison
-
I realize this is subjective and can be debated and so I must qualify and say this is my opinion.
I am impressed with DVD2one and do own it. I rate it C+ in part because it produces results that are unpredictable - you need to try it to see if it is going to be blocky, fuzzy etc. For me, this severely limits its utility. Furthermore, I set an upper threshold for the original VOB size at +1 GB (i.e. 4.37 + 1.0 =~ 5.37GB). Seems to be that InstantCopy may well extend that to a full DVD9 and still achieve acceptable results. If so, and this is still unclear, this tool may be the first one that (for me) is generally acceptable for ALL applications. That puts it well above DVD2one. -
For those who are interested, I'm MANUALLY translating the German review so that it is somewhat more unterstandable than Babelfish. I'll post a link as soon as it's ready.

I have a couple questions.
Does this program burn the file as well as compress it? Or will I still need to use a burning program?
Also when I rip it with dvddecrypter do I just select all the files and rip it in file mode?
Thanks for any help. -
toolman re your subtitle problem
The app is a little confusing in that respect - if you selected a particular subtitle by ticking it in the list then you got it the wrong way round - idea is you tick the ones you want the program to remove
(ie have it's dialog select all subtitle languages for removal then manually deselect just the ones you want it to keep)

if u are fussy about quality you could always let instantcopy do it's bit, then see how big the main movie file is after it has finished, then use CCE etc to make a similar size file but better quality, then hopefully you should be able to transfer it in like you would normally do with the original DVD
or could u just use instant copy to do all the work on the extras/menus etc to a certain size leaving so much space for main movie file (leave out main movie file in instantcopy) and then you use cce again for the same type of thing
only suggestions as I haven't tried it yet, but there will be ways to use it
please dont shoot me down -

Unchecked auto and went thru the other title sets reducing em further (first time round I crushed em to 33pcnt which was waaay too far though was more for a how low can you go style test)
note if you've got a multi pgc title amngst your title sets then the first pgc in the set is the one to adjust the others just list the value of the first in that set Keep an eye on title number as you go down list to confirm which are part of same set (be nice if it grouped em)
als clicking auto check box at any point applies auto values globally to all title sets not just oen your working on (ie puts em all back to square one and you have to set em all over again hehe)
space saved by additionl extras squeezing let me take movie up to around 68pcnt
just under 2hrs after i started project was ready to burn
Once burned and stuck in standalone player to test the menus functioned perfectly
Main movie only version took 25mins in dvd2one
second time around ive allowed the extras 50pcnt or so compression and given the movie 61 pcnt
the preview is really funky(weird red tint etc) - Id rather not see a preview and save a few processing cycles
Of the 2 dvd2one would still get my day to day useage vote though instant is a good option for episode style stuff
2 I plan to try on it
Training Day R2
Res Evil R1
(as both gave me probs in past so Id be interested in how it handles em)

is there any way to preview DVD before you burn it?
bit of a sickener if its a duff version and you waste a disk finding out
and I don't want to use a DVD-RW to check it 1st, which is my 1st thought
any suggestions or is it impossible to open it -
I won't use DVD2ONE, but the word is still out on Instant Copy. I can't get download of the demo right now. The German review doesn't make any sense with Babblefish (I only know English which is good enough 99.999% of the time.) Rob rated it a little below CCE quality in another thread, so it sounds like a fair alternative to CCE in some situations as defense has pointed out.

It seems like their are 2 versions of the program. I installed InstantCopy on this computer and it doesn't give any options under the profile tab that is supposed to say DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and so forth. It doesn't even have the Disc at Once option to copy from image to image. Anybody know why the program would install fully on one computer and not the other? (using the same install files from the demo) This is weird.
-
Hum. I check by right clicking on the main program icon in the installed folder. Select properties and then version. The copy I have is 7.0.0.91.
Installing on a computer is a mess for any new installed program. Its black magic due to whats already installed on a system. -
What do you use to burn the files this program makes? The files I have are pdi,pdi01, pdi02 etc. What did you do to burn them to dvd-r?
Thanks in advance. -
Did it once. I think all I did was:
1) Open the program.
2) Select HD for source. Burner for the other.
3) Click to start.
4) Instead of selecting a VOB directory just select that .PDI file.
The short guide is a bit limited on wording and some settings. -

Ya Know, I just don't get it.........
Whats right, whats wrong, your opinion is unfair, or not right, mine is better. Menus sucks, I hate menus, I like menus, I just want the movie, I want the movie and the extras on and on and on.
Isn't everyone entitled there opinion? Somethings are right for some and not for others. People are just posting there opinion, thats all. Why can't they do it with out being hammared? You speak your peace, and ya know maybe your right, maybe your not.
When I read a thread, I look at those opinions and make a decision on wether to waste my time or not. I don't hang a person for it, I need it. Based on what I read I try it or don't. If the majority say something sucks or is not worth the time to try or do, then maybe it does. If the majority say it rocks, then maybe it does. If the opnion or rating is split or close well.......then ya try it out for your self and see.
Some people care about how long a process takes, others don't, some care about the final product, others don't. Let'm be and be happy someone is giving an opinion or advise or help..... Is this not why we're here. Do we not ask for help or opnions. If we didn't then maybe this forum / site would not be so successfull or needed.
It's just an opinion
Ok, Ok, Ok ....I'll get off the soapbox........
Hopefully this little app will rock.....we all need this RIGHT?sFX WE -
1st let me say 10/10 for the end result after my 1st use of instantcopy!, a few more user settings and options will make this program an excellent purchase but it's always the same isn't it!
people always say I don't want menu's I want menu's, I want quality on 2 dvd's!, I want just menu's & movie no extras, when a new program comes out
Not pointed at anyone in particular but use the right software for what you want, and don't whinge or knock other programs!
I have just tried this and for the end result it get's 10/10, as you can choose what you want to keep and also re-encode everything but it's very easily setup too
DVD2one is the quickest for movie only but quality suffers on large movies, CCE is the better quality but takes a little longer but worth it if you can spare the time to do it, InstantCopy can do it too by unticking all the extras etc apart from movie
DVDXCopy is for people who want to keep everything or even just split a long movie without losing quality, or you can even use ifoedit
InstantCopy is mostly aimed at everything you want on 1 DVD with the choice to eliminate what you don't want, but with a very user friendly interface
they all beat each other in one way or another so the choice is yours!, it all depends on the DVD you wanna backup and whether it's worth keeping extras, menus etc, but don't say DVD2One is better than InstantCopy, or CCE is better than DVD2One etc etc
basically instantcopy does what it says on the tin in my eyes and I give it 10/10 cos it's done what I thought & wanted it would do and it isn't bad for a 1st release as surely there will be bugs and faults but hopefully it will get better, so it will get 11/10 if it does
my only gripe so far is the fact you have to burn the DVD without being able to preview it 1st, but I'm sure we all have our own gripes -
I think we should keep the comparisons of all three popular backup methods (DVD2DVDR, DVD2ONE, & INSTANT COPY 7) together on this thread: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143578
There are too many posts regarding various issues on downloading, purchasing, testing, editing the registry, etc, to keep up with the comparisons. If we have a seperate thread for just the comparisons, it makes things much simplier for everyone. robw, I hope you don't mind that I quote your first comparison and paste it in the aformentioned thread.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this prog. on a seamless branching title, and how it came out. Peace.
Blah, blah, blah -
Please Post the sucessful DVD+RW drives used with this program. I am having LOTS of problems getting it to recognize my NEC ND-1000A DVD+RW Writer (I can read from it, but can't write with it... the only destination drive I get to write is my hard drive). I am sure people got the Sony DRU-500A working with it, but what about any of the second generation DVD+RW/+R Drives? Any luck?
.... Maybe the program is just being picky with the rest of the programs installed on my computer.

I still cannot get this program to work. I have ripped the full disc of The Matrix. The whole VIDEO_TS folder. It's over 7 gigs. I open instant copy and click on hard drive, then right click hard drive and choose open image file. It wants me to open the .ifo file. I do, then I want it to write to my Pioneer A05. I click start, and it says it's verifying the video streams, etc and then it says writing failed. I have reinstalled it 3 times to no avail. I am not running on a Remote Desktop connection, and my sound card works fine. I'm playing music through it right now. So basically there is no way I would ever pay for this program unless they get the bugs worked out. Too much hassle, I'd just as soon stick with dvd2one because at least that works.

Good idea nufan292 on the seamless branching! Hum. I think I may have a good ofender.
If I get a chance will try that and I have the 2nd Tenchi movie with its werd angle stuff I can try also!
Will try it on a +RW. Out of +R right now. I know it works on a -RW very well. -
Nightwing:
What DVD+RW/+R Drive are you using with InstantCopy?
Also, do you have Nero, or any other burning software currently installed in your computer?
Thanks.
