  2. I've been using DVD Decoder and IC7 with great results... however.

I'm using a Sony DRU-120a and have been using Fuji DVD+RW's. All the movies I've copied play on a Panasonic, Apex, Sony, etc...

I just purchased some Ritek DVD+R's and made copies of two movies (Absolute Power, Bull Durham). Neither of them play on my Panasonic DVD Player. They both play on everything else I own.

Do you think it's the media, an incompatibility with the Panasonic Player, or is there some secret handshake black magic setting I don't know about that would cause DVD+RW's to work and DVD+R's not to? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for all the great help that happens on this forum.

instant copy is suppose to make 100 percent compliant dvds. maybe your panasnic just don,t like that particular brand. buy another brand of dvd+r or stick with +rw.

i had a sony dru 120a since it came out april of last year and my experience is that dvd+r are more compatible to dvd players than dvd+rw (back then i were burning dvd as data dvds, now i burning them as dvd video for which they didn't really have software for back then.)

back then i went through some serious trial and errors (buying different dvd players, buying different +rw media to find compatiblility (some dvd player would only played some of my movies, some play none, back then the only dvd players that i found that would play all of my movies was GE or RCA models that had dvd video on them). these are dvd's that were burned as data dvds

then dvd+r came out. i got mad at dvd +r because most dvd's players(about 59%) played them. my $2000.00 player pioneer dv-09 would only play about 30% of my +r movies though. it would only play some name brand of media and some name brand it wouldn't. the name brands that it would play still didn't play all of the movies that i made with that brand.but i would only buy that name brand if i wanted burn a movie.

then i buy a dvd burner for my other computer (aopen) for $300. the software( that came with the aopen was 20 times better than that cheap %$#^ that came with my $550 sony(which by the way i never used. i used instant cd dvd) i now had software that i could burn dvds as dvd video which will play on all dvd player that play dvd video (SUPRISINGLY not all dvd players play dvd video) like my pioneer dv-09. periodic check to this web site (which i learn how to do most of my burning dvd tricks from, a lot i learned from messing around with their and other programs) i learned about Gear Pro which can take any dvd media and any name brand +R +RW -R-RW and make it play on on any dvd player (the best dvd burning program there is. period. i took all of my old dvd movies that wouldn't play in a lot of dvd players import them as dvd video on gear pro and burnt new movies that will play in anything).

then came instant copy 7.0.91. it shrink the movie almost as fast(some movies it is faster) as my mpeg 2 adaptor card(another expensive piece that came with crappie software). the diffence with instant copy is that video is always in sync with the audio. but anyway instant copy supposely make 100% percent compliant dvds (they played in any dvd player that i put them in)

my point is sometime every media disc, player, program are not compaiblle with each other. so you should stick with what work for you(Although i bet if you brought another name brand of dvd +r you would find that they will work).

i say stick with dvd-r, they are more compatible, and every store bought dvd is based on dvd-r. they are more compatible than any dvd+r ever will be. also, according to specs, +/-rw aren't as widely recognized as the regular -/+r.

  5. Thanks for the information and advice. It looks like my problem was with the settings for IC7. These worked like a charm:

The DVD's I copied were all Dual Layered. I tried it two different ways. Directly from the IFO file created by DVD Decrypter, and from a PDI file created by IC7.

    Write Tab:
Write Method - Disc at Once
    Closing Method - Close CD
    Write Speed - Auto

    DVD Tab:
Copy Method - Auto Resize (If going from PDI to DVD)
Copy Method - Customized (If going from IFO to DVD)
    Preferred Destination - DVD
    CD Aspect - Auto

I've burned 3 DVD's with the Ritek DVD+R's and they all work perfectly in the Panasonic CV-51. Thanks again for everything.

I use a lot of DVD-R myself, but this is misleading.
    1) The usual reason players won't play burnables is reflectivity - in this respect, pressed DVDs are unlike ANY burnable.
    2) Never say "ever". Microsoft is backing +R, and so players of the future will likely support +R 100%.

  7. microsoft want +r only for his os...Is because +r is better for the mastering online (like instant cd or directcd), the dvd-r have to close the session ,+r update the toc at ever session without reburn...Is not for other choice like dvd+r video. All the dvd players i'have see is more compatibily with dvd-r.(sorry for my english)

  8. Hey Friends,

This site is really great .. and your contributions make it that way!!

I downloaded IC 7.0.0.91 trial version .. however once I installed it .. somehow my sister changed the PC date to 2006 and even before I could use the trial copy it expired. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it doesn't work

Is there a way I can get the trial copy to work. I tried removing the registry params under VOB->CD->7.0 but doesn't help. Will appreciate your help on this.

    Thanks in advance

i don't have 2000 but i pretty sure it has system restore since it based on the NT system.

to those who debate about which is better dvd+r or dvd-r it all depend on the individual. i could sit here and give a 1000 reasons why dvd+r is betterthan dvd-r, but i won't do that.

if you use gear pro or instantcopy 7.0.91 it does not make any difference. they both make 100% compliant dvds that SUPPOSE to play on everything. i know gear pro plays on everything but the verdict is still out on instantcopy(they played on every dvd player that i put them in).

  12. Just for info:

Make sure you uninstall the demo fully. Else when you install the full verison you may have some problems. Basically let the uninstaller in the full make sure the demo is removed.

  16. My Sony does both DVD+R and DVD-R along with the RW formats. I've found that the +R and -R compatibility to be pretty much equal, especially if using good quality disks. The main benefit to why I use DVD-R most of the time is because you can get good working disks for so cheap. And even thought they burn a little slower, you don't have to sit and watch it, and it's still minimal compared to some of the other steps.

  19. Okay!!

    So I managed to run 7.0.0.80 and copy a 9GB disc into 4.7GB , and noticed 2 things ..

    1. The video and the audio on the new recorded disc do not go together, there is a lag in audio , so I see the lip movement first and then comes the dialogue. Is this normal?? Or is it my version 7.0.0.80.

    2. There is a loss in picture quality ( though I am ready to cope up with that )

I was thinking of buying this sw, but with this audio lag I am not sure if its right for me.

Let me know if you guys have had better results!

I used Pioneer A05 for burning.

this is the 1st I've heard of audio lag

9Gb!!!!!!!!, how much did you keep?

if you kept the lot the % musta been low, what % settings di you have?, no the wonder the quality has suffered if you did

as the only thing thats lacking at the mo with this is the siizng issue

    cheers

  21. Hello,
I posted this in one other thread before noticing that this appears to be the "official" thread, so I apologize.
I have been trying for the last few days since I received my full copy of IC7 to backup some ~9 gb DVDs to ~4.7 gb DVD-R. I followed Baldrick's guide, and I have referenced the guides on "Deano's site" and Mr. Bass.org . However, IC7 freezes up during the "testing video quality" phase (very quickly after beginning the re-encoding process). I have left it on for several hours with no progress from this frozen point. The preview window goes black, and I am stuck in phase 1 of 3. Everything works great until then.
I have verified that I have the "discdata" folder, I have tried it with and without the reghack (verified through the registry). I have tried it on "The Killers" criterion (both discs) and "Sweet Charity" with the exact same result. I have uninstalled the program (and cleared the registry) and reinstalled the program. I have tried it with and without utilizing the "oversizing" f5 trick. I have also tried using ASAPI, and then ASPI. I also have the most current version (ending ...91). I am using a P3 700 Celeron with 384 mb RAM and a Panasonic LDF-310 recorder (running Win ME). IC7 recognizes all of my equipment, but I haven't gotten to the burning stage yet. DVD Decrypter has been working fine for me with 4.3 GB ISO burns, and appears to have worked fine with the "File" decryption.
Is there something different I can try to stop this freezing? Any help is greatly appreciated as I would really like to use this program. I am moving to a better computer later, but would like to use this software now.

  22. ref above, had the same problem with a couple of discs, switched to smart ripper instead of dvd-decrypter and it worked okay try that it may work.

  23. Thanks, Sheppy.

Unfortunately, Smartripper seems to not be able to "unlock" most of the files with the Panasonic drive I have. I'll try to get an updated version and see if that helps.

Any other suggestions are welcome, too.

smartripper won''t work without an aspi layer(if u installed one and smartripper don't work u have a corrupted layer. adaptec and vob aspi layers won't work on XP) unless u use a dvd player to unlock the key. i wouldn't recommend u add a layer though, because before i had one and i use powerdvd to unlock the movie for smartripper, my computer ripped the movie with blazing speed up to 18x (5 to 10 mins for the movie to rip) . now i have nero aspi installed it take 15 to 20 minutes to rip a movie. if u want to install the aspi layer anyway here are the instructions.

Where can I get aspi32 drivers for Windows?
Nero's ASPI driver from Ahead Software.

For Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll. Copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).

    For Windows 95/98/ME:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/NeroASPIen.exe and read the readme.txt file.

More info can be found on Nero's download page.
Bart says: "This aspi manager from Nero is great, I can really recommend it"...
