  1. Using PIC, are there certin menu options that shouldn't be specified for removal? Any guidelines on when or how to remove menus? If all menus are removed, can you still use the remote to skip from chapter to chapter?

    Thanks

  2. Will someone please tell me how to convert a PDI to an ISO?

Please do not tell me to just use PDIXtract.

Tell me how to use it. What do I type? Please type it exactly such as:

    cdixtract six.pdi

Or however you type it. I know it is done in a command window
    Quote Quote
  3. pdixtract doesn't convert the pdi to an iso. It is used to extract the raw files from the pdi (i..e, the VOB's, BUP's, IFO's, etc.).

It is a command line utilitly so you're going to have to burrow your way to the command prompt to use it. When I use it, I usually put pdixtract right in the same folder as the *.pdi file. I go to accessories > command prompt and navigate to the directory that has the *.pdi and pdixtract. I then type the command

    pdixtract *.pdi

It will extract all the files into the current directory -- that is the one with the *.pdi and pdixtract and the one from which you're issuing the command. I move them later to a VIDEO_TS folder for burning.

If you want to create an ISO, you need to download PDI2ISO, which is very straight forward and has a GUI interface.

Where is the reghack located in win98se? Tried to find it with regedit and came back with nothing...

  5. For pdixtract here is the command:

    pdixtract your_movie_file.pdi destination_dir:\
    ex: pdixtract speed.pdi d:\speed
or if pdiextract is not in the same dir:

    pdixtract d:\speed\authored\speed.pdi d:\speed

    @Neoh

you need to use the "-d" switch if you want to name an output directory.

I think an easier way for 95% of people is to use the gui written by WPELLE

so what you need to do is get pdixtract and pdigui. Both are in the following string (one is the first message the other the last)
    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46206

After extracting the zip files put the extracted files in the same directory and run the gui.

  12. Bugs

Does anyone know if Pinncale are listening and are intending to release any updates, I've tried the trial and there are several bugs that mean I'm not parting with cash yet.

I tested backing up my Terminator 2 special Edition (UK), the sort of mutli angle 'follow the white rabbit' version of the film does not work ie. the rabbit never appears, and some of the extras start with the subtitles on.

They need to fix these bugs, and put full official support for removig title sets - the fact the 7.00.91 does this with a registy key says they must be looking into it.

InstantCopy could be an Excellent program with minor bug fixes and updates - normally I use DVD Decrypter, DVD2AVI, CCE, DVD Maestro and then Nero..... I could use DVD Decrypter then InstantCopy, a lot less messing around.

  13. I finally got my retail version of pinnacle, but man that prog has a crappy install. here is my little bedtime story:
I wanted to install the full version so I ran the setup. I got an error message saying there is another install and I should remove it first. So I run the uninstaler of the demo version and that creep asks me for the .msi.
So I unpak the .msi from the demo file and point to it. It says it is not good. I try to use the full version msi, no good either. So I ended up removing all files and directory by hand. then went to the registry and made a search 1st on "VOB" with "MAtch all string" and erased 4 or 5 folders, then on "instant" and found 4 or 5 other things to delete. Finaly I was ready.
I relaunched the installer, everything goes ok, I ran the prog. Dawn it I installed the Demo version again. Oh well let's manually deinstall it once again.

Finally after 2 hours I got the full version installed and working like a charm, even the reg hack works on it
PS: When I reinstalled the demo version it said I had 15 days to test it (AGAIN!)

Is strange that nobody has the same problem as I.

Does anyone had this message: (?)

"Access violation at address 024C3B00 in module vobsrc.ax. Read of address 000000"

This message appears at the end just before finish - arrrrrgghhhh!!!!!
Everything else appears to be just fine.

    Version: TRIAL
Hacks: IC7_MovieOnly.zip, and DVDMagic flag (search on regedit) set to "1" - necessary to make title selection
I've already tried the full version and the problem remains.
The message above appears when I select HD output; if I select SONY burner it sometimes works well (apparently after a total system shutdown - power off not reboot). The second time I try to burn a DVD (without a "proper" shutdown) it gives an error (failed).

I don't even see that file (VOBSRC.AX) on my system....

I have two other PINNACLE products (PCTV Pro and STUDIO DV) and I really don't have much luck with their produts...

  15. Quite a few folks are having an issue with crashes, and the error usually involves vobsrc.ax. I have experienced it several times, and it has appeared at 26%, 85% and 88% in the transcoding stage of the same movie. The topic is discussed quite a bit at Doom.

I've ordered the retail copy but it is still out of stock. The install issues scare me now. I almost don't look forward to getting the product. Is it really as big as some suggest at Doom? I "heard" someone say the retail version is over 45 Megs, which seems really odd when the fully functional (almost!) demo is only 15 Megs.

Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of the crashes. Since some people seem to be crashless, while others are very crash-prone, there might be some commonality between the us crashers.

  16. I'm a bit new to this, so bare with me....

I first used DVD Decrypter as directed, FILE mode and all, then passed the data off to DVD2one selecting the largest TITLE and correct audio, then off to RecordNOW Max to burn the DVD. Used mostly all the defaults and after correcting a small UPPERCASE issue with WIN98SE, the BURN worked PERFECT (HP200i with DVD+RW media in 2 diff SONY DVD players)!!! FINALLY!!!

So then I saw how InstantCopy allows you to remove all the stuff you don't want (like DVD2one), but still allows you to keep the MENUE which I like (i.e. how else do you choose the AUDIO you want, etc). I installed Instant Copy and ran it using the guide on vcdhelp as well as a more detailed guide on www.mrbass.org/instantcopy. Used the same front end of DVD Decrypter, then to InstantCopy with the standard settings and using the preview to keep or not keep. Then I let InstantCopy burn my DVD directly.

All says it's OK, but the DVD will NOT play in either of my DVD players anymore!!! Same DVD Decrypter and Media and Players. Only difference here, really, is the InstantCopy manipulating the files to reflect what I have kept and not kept. I do NOT get a "Cannot read disk" type of error but rather it looks OK to the player at first as the counter starts to count, but then it appears to JUMP to Chapter 12 (end of disk) and DIE. All the while NOTHING has appeared on the screen.

Again, all I can figure is there is a problem with how InstantCopy manipulates the files which somehow confuses the Players (both of them). Any ideas or settings I should play with in InstantCopy to try and resolve this?????

    Please Advise

Ok, a quick followup before everyone starts YELLING at me about the REGISTRY patch. YES I did verify that I am running version 7.0.0.91 and I did download and install the "InstantCopy Register Hack" or whatever you want to call it. YES I merged it into my registry and even verified that it is there. Even rebooted (not necessary) and tryied the process all over again. Same results.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Well the CD is around 50-55 Megs for what I recall, but you have:
instantcopy + Acrobat reader + manuals in pdf format.

For the install issue, it is because I messed up my registry a bit while trying to deinstall another soft that had a VOB key in it.

  19. aaron10:

Full version is over 55MB. But that includes other installables like DitectX, some demo and Acrobat reader etc.

In full version, actual size of InstantCopy is about 15MB (same as demo).

    I tried following movies/documentaries:
    With Demo I copied:
Frank Lloyd Wright(2.5 hours main movie),
Ken Burns Civil War Disk 1 (2 hours main movie),
Ken Burns Civil War Disk 2 (2 hours main movie),
    Lagaan (200min hindi movie).

    With Full version I copied:
Band of Brothers Disk1 (2 hours main movie)

They all came out very good.

The issues I faced so far:

    1) Ken Burns Civil War Disk 1&2, Frank Lloyd Wright and Band of Brothers Disk1 has English subtitles in the form of Closed Captions. And IC does not seem to recognize them as Subtitles. So, I dont see an entry for english in Subtitles tab. And when it copies, it ignores Closed Captions. So, I dont have English subtitles in the copied dvds.

    2) I have a DVD (dvd9) that has about 6.5 hours of main movie. I am not able to copy that with IC.

Anyone have any ideas on how to retain Closed Captions?

I haven't tried Instant Copy myself yet but it may be worth trying the following:

    1. Use the PDIExtract tool to create the Title set from the PDI files
    2. Move the Pinnacle VTS_xx_xx.IFO (whichever it is for the main movie) to another spare folder
    3. Copy the original ripped equivalent VTS_xx_xx.IFO into the new Pinnacle VIDEO_TS folder.
    4. Use IFOUpdate to update the original IFO with the Pinnacle IFO details

I had to do this with The Bourne Identity after using DVD2ONE.

Obviously not an ideal situation and Pinnacle need to address this.

IC7 unfortunately doesn't make a 100% compliant DVD because it misses out the AUDIO_TS folder. This isn't an issue for me because my players don't need it, but some do have problems unless the disk is 100% compliant.

Best bet is to write it to your hard disk first. Extraxt the files using PDIXtractor, create the AUDIO_TS folder and burn.

IC7_MovieOnly_reg.zip Registry hack if you wish to enable de-selecting video title sets (VTS) and customizing transcoding size of movie, etc. Only works on 7.0.0.91. Close out of Instant Copy before applying registry hack/trick otherwise it'll reset to the original state.

Just added the last part in bold as this seems to be a few peoples problems of not gettting registry hack working.

This sounds like it is worth trying! Can you please be more specific on the steps here.

So after I use InstantCopy and select HD as my output rather than DVD, I will get some .pdi files. ..... and skipping ahead I obviously know how to take a VIDEO_TS folder and burn it to DVD correctly using RecordNOW MAX. What I need details on area the steps inbetween please.

    Thanks so much!

OK, if you go through the normal IC7 process but select a folder on your hard drive as the destination instead of your DVD writer. This will leave you with 4 or 5 files (5 hopefully to use up as much of the disk as possible) named something like this:

    movie_name.pdi
    movie_name.pdi01
    movie_name.pdi02
    movie_name.pdi03
    movie_name.pdi04

    Download PDIextract from here:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?&threadid=46206

along with the GUI at the bottom of the page.

Unzip both these files into a single directory. Run the GUI program, select the first PDI file and select "Extract". When all the files have extracted, put them all into a folder called VIDEO_TS. Create a second folder in the root called AUDIO_TS which will remain empty.

Burn these two folders to blank DVD using your favourite buring software in the usual way.

Hello, you process/links above worked as you described. In fact I used the command line version without the GUI (i'm an old UNIX guy) which was fine. The VIDEO_TS directory got created.....

However NOW I am getting a strange error within RECORDNOW MAX when I go to burn the DVD with the VIDEO_TS folder. I get an error: HP DVD Writer 200j Stopped because of VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS format error" then it terminates the burn. This happens right at the beginning. I realize this forum is NOT dedicated to RecordNOW max, but any ideas???

Sorry I've never used RNM so I haven't got a clue. I have had a similar error though with Primo but as I was in a rush I didn't have time to mess around and so just ended up burning in Nero (UDF 1.02) and it worked fine in my standalone. I know that most burning apps do compliance checks on the files and folders when burning DVD Video disks and so something is obviously still not 100%.
Have you tried opening the IFOs in IFOEdit and using "Get VTS Sectors" to see if that works?

Since when the AUDIO_TS folder is needed to make a full compiliant DVD?? I have tons of DVDs (real ones not backup) that don't have that folder and played them on a lot of DVD players without any trouble at all.

for the instant entry you needed to kill the FOLDERS not the DWORD.
There are about 4 folders i the registry with a very long key like 45213454676575 containing install info about instant copy. those needs to be killed.

ps: use a regcleaner to get rid of all the craps.

OK, I figured out how to get around the RecordNOW MAX "error" as it does some sort of DVD file testing if you let it. I turned that off and now it burns. However I am still all the way back to the original problem in that after the burn, it will NOT play in any of my players. Again, it appears that InstantCopy is doing something to the files (unlike DVD2one) to mess up the format so that the DVD players can't do their thing. They recognize the DVD and start to run (i.e. the counter starts to count) but no video comes up. Within a few seconds it jumps to the END of the disc and dies! Sounds like a NAVIGATION PROBLEM or file processing problem...... So back to DVD2one unless someone has any ideas.....
