I have to believe the ID portion of SID stands for identification, although I may be way off target. Do you have the retail version or the Demo version? Might there be a serial ID question?
I still wonder about THAT element of IC anyway because I have "Use online decoding database" checked but I'm not on the I-Net at times when I use the program and it never complains about the situation.
I think sharing information will solve a lot of our problems and make both IC and DVD2ONE viable backup options.
If you find a solution, please post it so we can keep track of workarounds.
My best...

I think it can be attributed to using Remote Desktop Connection. I did it without and it works fine. I know it looks like the error has something to do with ID but it has nothing to do with licensing. The only thing it could be is Remote Desktop Connection which is a shame. If you can't use it with that then it is not for me. I will sell my copy.

Thw MDawkins link is to some other crap he named Instant Copy but it is not Pinnacle Instant copy. This guy is a scammer.
-
Just to chime back in, I still have the same SID issue w/ Remote desktop, and still have success using VNC.
And sorry, still can't figure out why -
I just bought a copy of Instant Copy from
http://www.jandr.com/JRProductPage.process?RestartFlow=t&Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1891...=3679490&Sort=
I will post my results when i get it, but right now they are temporarily out of stock.... i think alot of you must have bought it from the same company because they had the software in stock 2 days ago, but then yesterday they had none. lol -
5 hours of encoding to end up with a main movie with no audio tracks... I hate that thing.
Doh its reverse logic, you need to click the audio tracks you want to remove, not the ones you want to keep!
Gonna go hit my head on the wall a few times now...
Is there any way to remove the preview window when its working? This must be slowing it down. -
Does this program automatically make dvds region free?
Does anyone know how I can use instantcopy 7 with dvddecrypter to mke a 1:1 backup that is region free?
Thanks for any help. -
There's a link to a guide on the front page of this site under "New Guides" but the short version of the method I've been using is:
1: Rip all files to hard drive using DVD Decryptor in a VIDEO_TS folder. You can then use IFO Edit to de-regionalize it I would imagine, but I've never done it. One of my stand-alone players is region-free.
2: Point Instant Copy to that folder on the hard drive and process as desired. It will burn to disc, or create a PDI.
That's pretty much it. -
I tried to use InstantCopy with DeadCanDance DVD.... 5,3GB PAL VERSION..
1) Ripped all files from DVD with DVD DECRYPTER.
2) In Instant Copy (Real version) i left everything auto.
3) The process took about 3 hours.
4) When finished i had 3 pdi files.
5) I used pdi2iso_011 to convert them in Iso
6) Burned with DVDDECRYPTER (which i trust and love)
Conclusion?
Good picture quality, file size about 3,9GB, DVD played in my sony DVP-NS705 and dvd-rom ok but in the extra section of the dvd it had problems... nothing seemed to work. Only the main movie (concert) was ok.... the video clips in the extra section was ok in the menu but not playable.
Anyone had similar problems??
---------------------------------------------------
Sorry for my poor english -
Does anyone had this message: (?)
"Access violation at address 024C3B00 in module vobsrc.ax. Read of address 000000"
This message appears at the end just before finish - arrrrrgghhhh!!!!!
Everything else appears to be just fine.
Version: TRIAL
Hacks: IC7_MovieOnly.zip, and DVDMagic flag (search on regedit) set to "1" - necessary to make title selection -
I tried Mean Machine (PAL) last night. It skips the main menu and goes straight to the main movie. If I press the menu button on my remote then the menu appears.
Ive tried this on 2 DVD players and my PS2.
Anyone else had this?
>Version = Trial

:P strangezero, I rip with dvddecrypter and make an iso with it in one shot, then mount that image with daemon tools , then burn it with instantcopy, dvd+r's come out great, tried Harry Potter 1 (2hr 32 mins) had everything on the dvd and worked and looked great. version=trail, no hacks
-
strangezero Why convert the output file to an iso when the program can write the output file directly to dvd.
I have set it to automaticaly write the dvd after it has converted it. Takes about 3-4 hours.
You do not need to make an image of the dvd just use dvd ddecrypter in file mode & point instantcopy7 to the directory, select the ifo then convert. You will have a complete dvd 9 onto a dvd5. (You need to set the program initaly to auto write & give it a large temp directory) -

Two success stories on some Sopranos and XXX:
Sopranos
I was backing up my Sopranos with two episodes per disc so that I wouldn't have to transcode. I used Maestro to author DVDs with custom built menus... preserved the episode menus with the Next On and Previously On previews. Well, when it came time to do Episodes 9 & 10 of Season 2, they were too big to fit on a DVD-R even if I dumped the menus. Transcoding would be necessary. This was before I learned about pressing F5 to choose a bigger DVD output size in Instant Copy. Here's what I did:
1. Ripped Episodes 9 and 10.
2. Took only the video (no audio, no menus) into Maestro. Compiled this.
3. Told Instant Copy where the compiled files were and told it to go using it's default maximum of 4.32 GB.
4. This was before pdixtract, so I burned this to a DVD+RW. Then I ripped that back to HD.
5. No I re-opened my Maestro project file (which had the whole DVD set up, but with my original video files that were too big). I dropped the original video files and then imported my new ones.
6. Because Instant Copy used the default 4.32GB setting and didn't fill the disc, there was plenty of room for the audio commentary and the menus with the Next On and Previously On previews. Results were excellent.
XXX
Here was my first attempt at backing up an entire dual-layered disc (7.51GB, I think). I used the Reg hack on the demo of Instant Copy so that I could drop some crap.
1. Ripped entire disc in file mode with DVD decryptor.
2. Told Instant Copy where these were and chose the hard drive as my output.
3. I didn't want the music video or the three trailers. So I unchecked titles 11, 22, 23, 24 (I think... going off of memory). I also dropped the French soundtrack. I kept the Audio Comm and then Audio Comms for the deleted scenes/extras.
4. I wanted to maximize the movie quality. I wanted all the other extras for posterity sake, but didn't care about the quality (as long as I could tell who was who on screen). So I reduced all extras to the minimum on the slider (30%). (Some could not be reduced... the slider was grayed out and set at 100%... oh well)
5. Then using the F5 trick to control the maximum size of my DVD output, I was able to set the movie's compression at 90%! This got me an output of 4.67 GB. I first tried with an output of 4.7, but when I tried to burn this, it was too big. 4.67 GB was perfect.
6. Instant Copy took about 2.5 hours to do the whole thing on a P4 1.7Ghz 256RAM.
7. Then I used pdixtract to convert the Instant Copy pdi files into a standard VIDEO_TS folder with ifo and vob files.
8. Next came IfoEdit - did a VOB Extras on just VTS 2 (the main movie) to take out the layer break thingy. Then did a Get VTS Sectors on the whole thing.
9. Added an AUDIO_TS folder.
10. Normal procedure for me at this point is to always burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS to a DVD+RW in RecordNow (Data disc) for testing. After that, I create an image file in ImgTools or Maestro and then burn the final from that. When I loaded the folders into RecordNow, it told me I had 28MB left over... but it wouldn't burn. So then I tried ImgTools, but it wouldn't create the image because I had a few titles where there were VTS_XX_0 files but not a VTS_XX_1 (remember I dropped the trailers and music vid). So I used Maestro to build an image. Then burned that to DVD+RW with Nero.
11. Then I watched the entire movie (remember at 90% quality) on a 2002 Mitsu 55" Widescreen TV using component video. When I was really looking for problems on pause I could find little hints of things... but when just watching the movie, the whole thing looked great. The extras looked really crappy, but totally watchable, which was fine for me. They still looked better than if I was watching some streaming web stuff on my PC.
If I try to select the music video or trailers on my Pioneer DV-414, the player says Search (normal), doesn't find anything and switches back to saying MENU and stays on the same menu. This behavior is great! The only tricky thing (and I can understand why it happened) was that the Audio Comm (which was Track 3) moved to Track 2 when I dropped the French track. So selecting the Audio Comm from the menus does nothing. Selecting French from the menus turns on the Audio Comm. I never do this anyway, I just switch on the fly while watching the movie with the remote's AUDIO button. I don't know enough about IfoEdit to know if this could have been fixed there first, but I don't care because I use the AUDIO button.
Conclusion: Instant Copy is a great balance of the quality vs. time ratio for me. I'm not the average consumer looking for an all-in-one solution (although this does a great job of that). So I'm willing to use pdixtract, IfoEdit and other tools to enhance the quality of my final output. I'm not waiting countless hours for other transcoders, and I'm getting the full DVD experience of all the menus and the extras that I handpick for saving.-nickel -
This will beat them all, cce, tmpg, instant copy, dvd2one, etc........

I have DVD2ONE and Pinnacle Instant Copy. Instant Copy is much better because it can do a 1:1 copy. Unbelievable. From a layman like me, I can't tell the difference between the source disk and the copy disk. But I give thumbs :P up to both of the programs. DVDXCOPY

As I don't live in the US or Europe, is there a download version to buy??

I will not use Instant Copy until Pinnacle gets a freakin' clue and makes the output a nonproprietary image file.
-
get the freeware utilities pdixtractor to make the VIDEO_TS file structure or PDI2ISO if you wish to make an iso file that you can mount with Daemon Tools or burn with DVD Decrypter. Both tools work great!
So the proprietary format is really a non issue -
I decided top try PIC. I took a DVD9 and created a ISO file with DVD decrypter. I used Daemon tools to mount the ISO as a drive. I then loaded PIC and set the mode to be DVD-R and everything else default. I will let it run all night since it says it will take 477 minutes. Do most people find this acceptable? I think it is way too long. DVD2one is much much faster but I am curious about how the PIC copy will be like with all the special DVD features but still this is way to long IMHO.
-
I find that in reality, it takes about a third of the time reported when you first start.
It is making five passes to get a quality picture, so it's definitely not going to be instantaneous. It will depend on your processor speed though, and the size of the disc you're processing. -
dvd2one has worked flawlessly for me thus far and I intend to wait for a newer version that will support menus. Why bother with PIC? Takes longer and from what I've read it doesn't de-interlace? My 2 cents.

Why IC? Who wants to use four different programs to do the same thing IC does simply and easily? If I'm backing up my property, I want the whole thing. And the whining about "pay me for my program so I can add new features" is BS. Nobody paid them to write the program in the first place, so nobody needs to pay them to write in new features.
I find it interesting that a lot of very new posters with *emphatic* loyalties to shareware solutions have been popping up all over the forum lately.
How's that sock puppet working for you? Keeping your hand warm? -
If you extract the output to a VIDEO_TS folder then do a "Get VTS sectors" with IFOEdit it can solve some of the navigation bugs.
After that I burn with a Audio_TS folder and give a volume name to the disk. Didnt got a single playback problem with this method so far. -
I'm having problems getting this sucker to work. Each time I select the source & destination devices the program dials the internet...which I stop.
When I've selected the subs and audio the program goes away to think about it...and hangs.
Tried to do this with it dialling the internet and stopping it from doing the internet.
Anyone got any clues on how to get this to work?? -
There is a setting to tell it NOT to go on line for Transcode. Select Advance and its under one of the Advance selection on one of the tabs. Thinks it DVD Tab I think.
