My first backup worked perfectly (burning from within IC) but not so for my second attempt. IC transcoded the movie successfully but at the 11% point in the burn an error message popped up indicating "Couldn't find the buffer..."
Four hours and one coaster later I may have learned a valuable lesson, although I'm not exactly sure what it is...

Oki don't misunderstand me now, I think InstantCopy 7 is a great program, but it has a lot of bugs that Pinnacle have to fix before I consider to buy it!
Here is the bugs I have found so far in the program.
1.The subtitle bug. You have keep all the subtitles if you want them to work. If you just pick out one subtile it wont work.
2.The extras/menue bug. If you decide to delet a menue or some extras, it can screw up the playback.
3.The finale size bug. You couldn't be sure whether the pdi files will be to
big or to small(4.36gb) just depend from movie to movie.(I heard that Pinnacle has fix this bug in the latest retail version?)
4.The label bug. Instant wont give your DVD any name, not because it's very importent, but anyway.
Oki I know you can walk around all this bug i different ways, but then this program is not an all in one prog anymore. So I will wait and se if Pinnacle can fix all the bugs in later version before i buy this software! -
Espen the below is not a bug in InstantCopy. If you choose to use a hack to be able to delete menus etc... You must live with the consequences.
2.The extras/menue bug. If you decide to delet a menue or some extras, it can screw up the playback. -
NYPlayer so you mean that InstantCopy should actually not be able do delet extras and therefor it wont work right?
-
InstanCopy does not let you remove any extras. The only stuff you can remove is audio tracks and Subs. If you applied the registry hack in order to remove extras, then this is not ICPY faults but your own.

all done with first trial, tried Episode 1, menu
quality very good, video quality very good,
one thing puzzles me also, when i put it in
power dvd, it wont play, when i try to explore
dvd, computer tells me un-formatted disc, so
i cant tell if it has an audio_ts folder or not..
way longer than dvd2one, about 3+ hrs on p4
2400/533, i let ic burn it, too early in the game
to try other techniques... -
For a newbie...
I'm reluctant to burn directly to disc again (from within IC) due to my last misadventure. I have nothig against IC ... I feel we're in beta.
Thus... I transformed the *.pdi* files to a *.pdi.iso file using pdi2iso. Now, exactly, what can I do with the pdi.iso to burn it to disc?
If you can give alternatives, I'd appreciate it. I've seen references to DVD Decrypter but I have no idea how to load and use the the pdi.iso to burn to disc. (I know how to burn an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD-R.) Please don't underestimate my stupidity, though.
Many thanks for the help... -
I tried it on a movie.. no problem found. I then tried it on an anime dvd (outlaw star volume2 disc 1) Oh my GOD that is some fugly output!!!.... Does this program not do any deinterlacing at all if it find interlaced material? Speed was fine though nothing amazing.. people are just speed spoiled by dvd2one. The video however was disgusting. Horrible interlace issues from being transcoded with no deinterlace.... obviously not even a simple one. How can I be the only person who has noticed this?

I have transcoded all the material from a ripped DVD (i.e., relevant VBO's, IFO's, and BUP's) to a PDI using IC. I have "translated" the PDI to an ISO using PDI2ISO.
Is there a method for extracting all files from the ISO file (i.e., the VBO's, IFO's and BUP's) so I can burn them to disc? The reason I ask is I have had less than great luck using NERO and RECORD NOW MAX for burning. I would love to point IMGTOOLS to a VIDEO_TS folder where the extracted, "diet" material (VOB's, IFO's and BUP's) would be housed and have IMGTOOLS execute the burn. My reason -- IMGTOOLS has been the most resiliant, compatible, least error-prone utility I have used for burning.
Essentially, I'm asking if I can extract individual files from the ISO that were incorporated in the PDI so I can burn them using IMGTOOLS?
Many thanks...

It looks like it doesn't correct navigation when an audio stream is stripped either. I did TwinPeaks Disc 1 as a test, removing the DTS track from each episode.
The Disc plays fine, but to hear the commentary track you have to select the DTS track. It's nothing that can't be fixed in IFOedit &/or VOBEdit, but it's something that will be beyond most users of the software. -
If you would like to try out the full version before buying it without any limitations there is currently a download here :-
link removed and user bannnnnnnned
Don't forget you should only download this while you are waiting for your own copy to arrive. -
Aaron,
Mount the image using Daemon tools. Copy the files to your HD from this virtual drive -

ok right AFTER you hit start..ok just re-read that. Well...hmm I ain't an expert so hopefully others can help. I'll try tonight Spirited Away R3 Hong Kong DVD but I doubt that'll be similar. -
I'm using the demo and the reg trick does work in terms of allowing me to uncheck...
However, even IF I uncheck the video and audio for the files I want to remove.......IC still tells me the file is too big.
I even manually reduced all 11 eps vts25-35 down so that the size slider is less than 4.3gb and then press OK but IC still says its too big and reverts back to the larger size displayed during the first warning.
So what I am theorizing is...what If I ifoedit out vts 09-19 (unwanted files) so that IC doesn't bother with them in the first place.
I do not have access to the RETAIL version here in the USA as of yet and I agree the "scene" version is not going to help me at all.
Any ideas on a remedy... I'm on day 4 of trying to get this to work.
Thank you again. -

Whether you get a pirated version is up to you, but should links be posted on this board?

I've backed up about 15 discs now, some movie discs and some TV episode discs, and the only problems I had were early on when I didn't have the hang of the program yet.
Double check all your settings and make sure you have a blank disc in the writer drive. Try to scale the total down to 4.25 gig, as their estimates on final file size are approximate. You'll notice there is a second (larger) set of figures in parenthesis to the right of their estimates. This could be where the difficulty is... you're ending up on the higher end of the scale, but the program uses the smaller end of the scale for the display. -
New problems with InstantCopy!
I just maid a new backup and chose my DVD burner as destination. InstantCopy did it's work. InstantCop then told me that every thing on my dvd+rw would be deleted and I push OK. 2 secons later InstantCopy told me that it was finished, but it had not done anything with the dvd+rw.
Do I have to delet the dvd+rw manually before using InstantCopy or whats wrong? -
Tilandra,
Thank you for the advice. I'll try check all my settings including the temp later today when I get my life back (after work)
Unfortunately...this will be the 20th time attempting this... (no sarcasm intended).
The disc that I am trying to archive is a SPEED RACER disc. This one disc has 11 eps on it and weighs in at about 7.6GB when I start.
Maybe you can provide me with some insight on another issue. I had one succes with the same disc but I used the following procedure and had the following issues.
1) USED IC to rip and burn the disc on ALL auto settings. *Did not use decryptor or smartrip.....*
2) Disc burn completed.
3) Plays back on PC DVD-ROM but menu link fails for last 3 eps.
4) Will not play on 2 standard dvd players tested.
Any ideas? -
One of my early ones... either Requiem for a Dream or Ghost World... came in at 7.8 gig. Though they're not episodic, the menus worked fine even at the higher chapter numbers, so I'm not sure what's up with that. If I were technically up on DVD structure, I wouldn't need IC, LOL :P Sorry I can't be more help that way.
As far as failing in a standalone player, that's usually the media. Right now I'm using 2x Ritek discs, and they're even working on my unhacked Panasonic A110, which is terribly finicky. You might want to give them a try. I've noticed they're more "reflective" than other discs I've bought... there are some DVD-R that I can see my fingers through while holding them, but the Riteks look solid. I imagine the laser likes that better
Question of my own: If I'm ripping the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive, in a folder named after the DVD volume, if I add an AUDIO_TS folder manually, will IC copy the additional folder, thus making the end disc more compliant with some players? (if I understand that problem correctly) -
For anyone that cares...
Making SVCDs or VCDs for that matter... Totally sucks with this program. It doesn't handle scene change that well as you will see tons of pixelation. My test was Macross Plus (anime) trailer which has tons of fast moving scenes. Even on still scenes, it sucked...
dhluke -
On first impressions I liked this program it seemed to do the job, but it does not handle all films. I backed up the Bond film The World Is not enough admittedly its over 7gb long.
The results where terrible, the extras had been encoded to a watchable level slightly less than SVCD quality, but the main film was very blocky in places, and once zoomed it was very noticable.
I have backed up other films and the quality was very good but this one, forget it.
In future I shall decide wether to use DVD2one or Instant copy but like Dhluke posted the VCD/SVCD quality sucks, think I will stick to using DVD2SVCD with the CCE encoder.
pothole -
Im reserving judgment on IC7 as out of three trys it has only worked once with phoenix nights the results were OK but there were a few blockies evident, I had a go with Training day and Oceans 11 but both films crashed at about 30% I tried again with the same films and got another crash this time around 60% through

You guys have lost me.
I thought this prog is supposed to reduce the size of the files so they would fit on a dvd-5.
So why are some getting error messages saying the files are too large???I don't have a bad attitude...
Life has a bad attitude! -
I had to remove my files from my web server, my provider called my to stop cause it was using all traffic. (1 Mbits) I saw the charts and the little 15 Mo file caused a 38 GIG of upload from the server in only 4 days. lol
and that only because of things link DAP, get right or other multidl prog.
sorry[-Neoh*-]|[-Cheers-] -
Thanks, Mikef07...
Strange thing initially. I tried to extract all the files using WinRAR. It did the job but the menus weren't working correctly. I have no clue why! When I used Daemon Tools to copy the files from the virtual drive, sure enough, the menus worked. If I look at the two VIDEO_TS directories (i.e., WinRAR vs. Daemon Tools) they look absolutely identical date stamp and six-wise, but the Daemon Tools menus work and the WinRAR menus do not. -
No problem. Now I am getting a problem using Instant copy.
It says "The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist".
Who the hell is SID? and why is he in my computer? ANyone know why this is? I am using Remote Desktop connection.
