I don't think this is warez... but.. I live in Japan and bought a Japanese xbox.. and it's very nice! Even though I am a hardcore Mac person and have never bought a Winblows PC, I bit the bullet and purchased an MS product.. sorry to use the MS initials...
One problem.. only about 25% of the number games available in the US are available for xbox in the Japan.. never mind xbox live compatible games... so I am wondering if I really made a bad investment/decision by going with an xbox instead of a Playstation 2 - anyway.. too late to cry. Halo kicks absolute ass though... but it won't last forever... and I have to check online for the release of Halo 2 every single day.Anyway... I am wondering if Kai's utility that allows making xbox compatible iso disks will allow me to make a backup of my legally bought english-version xbox game from the US and play it on my Japanese xbox here... I assume the disk created with that utility is regionless - if that even applies in this case. Perhaps it's not encoded in the disk, but instead in the game itself?
Anyone tried this?
One more question in case anyone reading this post knows - I have yet to get the xbox live kit simply because there are no games - well, like 3 in Japan and they all look like anything but fun. If I can run US games on my Japanese xbox via Kai's util, and get xbox live in Japan, can I play US people ?? Is xbox live worldwide or is a Japanese xbox live kit only going to give me interaction with Japanese players?![]()

Hello,
I believe that if you modify your xbox with a mod chip you can play all region games BUT, if you put the currently available chips in your machine then it will void your warranty (of course) and worse, it will not play xbox live (live being about the coolest thing since pong!)
I do think that if you have the same game as a USA player and you go live that you can potentially play players from around the world.

Using a modchip will allow you to play any region games, but as already said you will be banned for LIFE from the XBOX Live system if live detects you have a modchip.
Of course the simple way around this is to get a modchip with an on/off switch. this allows you to turn your mod chip off and play on live (of course you will need a real dvd, in your region) and then back on to play backed up games right off your xbox hdd.
this moethod is pretty useless if you wanted to play US live games, as your mod chip won't be on for xbox live. But great if you want it to play US backed up games.
more info and xbox forums can be found at: www.xbox-scene.com
these guys make some great chips, as well as being quite cheap, they make the only legal mod chip (by shipping a non proprietry open source bios on the chip - which you can then replace using a program they provide) : http://www.ozxchip.comspathi.net: My Corner of the Universe
