Okay, I have this divx file that I am encoding to mpeg-2. I have set it to 2-pass, motion search(slow), and I extracted audio with vdub first. I have not watched the finished product yet, the encoding process took about 6-7 hours. I have checked out the preview, and I see lots of block noise (is that what you call all those irritatiing pixels?) Anyway, before this I had xvid to svcd-2, and it was super clear with no block noise. I am hopin this will be just as good, despite the shit in the preview. Anyway, I was wondering if someone could step by step me throught the settings I should use with tmpgenc?
Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps VBR 2225kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
Perhaps that little bit of info can help? Anyway, msg me or post with your reply. I would appreciate any help I can get with this one. this movie is so clear, that it would piss me off if the quality deteriorates with encoding.
oh, yeah, while I am here...How come the first time I watched the xvid to mpeg-2 file, it was fine - and the next time there was gradual audio-sync problems here and there. Also, there was this irritating sound that occured when the screen pixelated. Does quality sometime get shittier after watching it a few times? And then when I pause it and start it again, the audio sometimes has to catch up. Just a few things that I am wondering about.
Peace out!

Hi,
I'm not sure if encoding from Divx to SVCD will make any difference to the quality of the video. I also use Divx but I encode it to simple mpg format. The problem of blocks in the video can be solved by the noise reduction option in tmpgenc. I use 60 in still picture and 50 in the time axis options in noise reduction but it depends on how much disturbance is there in your video. Sometimes I also use sharpen edge to make the video more sharp. For the audio sync problem you can solve it also in the tmpgenc by using the audio gap correct in the source range option though it takes quite a while to adjust the settings. I hope all of this will be helpful.
