I keep reading how fast this program is but it doesn't seem to be that fast for me. I would love to get someones opionion. I am trying to back up Star Wars EP2 with dvd2one, It says it is going to take 388 min. It just doesn't seem right. Muy computer is a 2200 athlon xp with 512mb DDR, 120GB 7200 HD. I have been able to rip movies to svcd faster than this. Any suggestions as to waht may be wrong. Thanks

You are ripping the DVD with SmartRipper (or some other program) first, right?

I start off by using smart stripper to rip the movie onto my hard drive. Just like the guide says. Next I start dvd2one, Select my source(File I ripped the movie too on HD) Set Destination folder. First time I set it to the same drive new folder. 2nd time tried to a different drive. While running the program it seems like it is working but then I will bring up task manager (CRT+ALT+Dlt) and where it shows the program running. It will say running next to dvd2one then it will say not responding and then back to running and so on. It just keeps bouncing back and forth. I don't have any other programs even runnig during the opertation. I assume dvd2one works with Win XP Pro? I hope someone has maybe some ideal what is up. Thanks for any help.

May sound silly this but you are playing the actual movie first before you rip it.

Play your movie (actual movie, not the menu or extra's etc) and then pause it. Start smartripper, rip your files and when it's finished close your dvd player down.

When you say it seems to be working and when you start task manager it's 'not responding', how long are you leaving it to work?
Do you leave it say, ten mins, or are you checking task manager within seconds?

i had the same problem with an athlon 2000xp 512mb ram. make sure dma is enabled on the hard drive - that cut my time down to 17mins for a 2 hour film
-
Silk, I left it go fro one time about 1 hour the next time was an hour and a half.
Yes I did open movie first and played. I have also had problems like that too. Thanks for the sugestion.
ROD I hate to sound dumb but where do I access this dma. Or find out if it is on or not? Thanks for everyones input. -
start=>settings=>control panel=>system=>ide devices?=>select properties. If your motherboard supports dma there should be the option to check a box to enable it. It takes some of the calculations away from the processor and your computer should run faster
-
Ok I found one drive ide that was not set at dma. I don't know if it was the drive I am using but it seems to have been. I just started it up again and it say 148 min. Thats a lot better than the first time. Still a little longer than I expected. Could it be because this movie is around 8gb and 2hours 22 min long. Or am I still missing something. I am going to let this one run and see what the actual time is when it completes.

The only other problem I can think of is your hard drive's if you have two hard drive's on the same IDE cable and one frive is 72000RPM and the other drive is 54000RPM it can slow do your PC alot if your drive's are different speed's they must be on different IDE cable's if so move one drive to IDE cable two. I had this problem with a 72000RPM hard drive with a 54000RPM hard drive and I just replace the 54000RPM hard drive with another 72000RPM hard drive

Some people have had hard times because of the name of the destination folder, might be worth looking at. Wish I could help more but the advise already given is good. So have a Nice day
One last thing have u tried a diff movie just to be sure -
I can't see it being D(irect) M(emory) A(ccess) .........
One way to check is to rip to one folder and then encode (with dvd2one) to another folder *on the same drive*.
I do this and it takes around 25mins.
If you're still experiencing these horrendous encoding times then it isn't DMA
Clutching at straws but run scandisk and then diskfrag.
Good luck,

I canceled the last one after about 1 1/2 hours and it said it still had 1 hour left. Here is some more info about my system I have all 7200rpm drives. I tried it again using the same drive with a simple folder selection. I have the main movie in folder named L:\Star Wars 2 A the destination folder is L:\Star Wars B. I jsut dont' understand. If I had the drives on same cable or I had slower drives I would understand but this just doesn't make sense I will start a defrag of this drive but I don't think that will help this drive only has 2 files on it and I just formatted a week ago. It is my drive I rip all my movies on and I clean it out every once in a while. Please keep the suggestions coming. I know someone has the answer out there.
Thanks Again. -
1 more thing. Does anyone notice if they go to the windows task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) That the dvd2one program will say running then it says not responding and so on. It just keeps doing that. That is why I think my run time is so long. It seems like the program is starting and stopping. Anyone ever expierence this problem?
I am going to delete the program reboot the computer and install it to a new drive. -
You might want to check the bus speed on the mother board I have a AMD 1.8Xp chip it ran slow with bust speed set to 100 I had to go in the bois and chenge the speed to 133 bust speed. if all else fail format your hard drive and start fresh then install program's and see if it slow's down.

Ok I finally figured out the problem. My systme is as follows.
2 120gig 7200hd
2 80gig 7200hd
1 20gig 5400hd
1 SDR DVD-RW
1 48x CDRW
1 42X CDRW
I basically have 8 IDE devices. I thought I had my 2 120 gig hd set as primary ide master and secondary master, I sloa have a pci ide controller to run some of the other IDE devices. Well after finally trying this so many times I finally open my computer up and discovered I only have my primary 120HD on IDE1.. the other hd's go through the PCI IDE controller. The strange thing is when I make svcd's with DVD2SVCD and CCE it doesn't seem to slow me down. I made a switch and it took 32min. So I think I am in business. Thanks to all who gave me help... Now I can hardle wait for the new dvd2one so I can have extras and all. Thnaks and have a great night all. -
Glad to hear you solved it
Eight IDE eh?
Wow!
Hope you have a great PSU! otherwise
Have a good weekend, whatever you're doing ....:mic: :jester:
Take care
