  1. Hi I've just 2 complaints with this standalone (apex is great!)

1)It doesn't handle SVCDs in MPEG1 format well at all. It just brings up the mp3 menu for me and i'm down a disk.

2)Subtitles always turn on. ALWAYS! I keep turning it off but each chapter it turns on by itself again.

Any help on this? particularly the second question.

  2. well, SVCD is NOT MPEG1, i repeat NOT MPEG1, its an XVCD and u should burn as VCD2.0 or just the mpeg on a cd, wich the 660 will handle.

my newer apex 660 (JUST before the 3201) doesnt have that sub prob.

it sees a svcd file structure and applies mpeg 2 decoding.

it doesn't understand mpeg 1 under svcd.

First, go into the SETUP menu and try setting the "CAPTIONS" menu item to "OFF", if you haven't already done so.

    If that doesn't work...go to:

    http://www.dvd-wizards.com/darrenk/660/660patch.htm

Follow the instructions to check what firmware version you have. You probably have version 660-7, 660-8AM, or 660-8MM. All of these versions have the subtitles problem (I think). If you can upgrade your player to firwmare version 660-9MM (available from that page), it'll fix the subtitles problem.
