  1. Problems, Problems...

I am having a lot of trouble backing up back-ups. I am using ritek dye disks ( dark purple ). The problem is that my dvd-rom drive in conjunction with dvd decrypter in iso read mode, stops reading certain disks at anywhere between 95-99%, and then retries and eventually fails, therefore unable to back the copy up...I have a pioneer 105 with f/w 1.00 and am wondering if anybody else has been experiencing these problems. The only way I can get it to work ( and not always ), is to read the dvd in the pioneer 105 itself, but this also fails sometimes. I make an image file with Imgtools 0.89 and then use dvd decrypter to burn. This also happens with other brands of disks.

I have also noticed that it mainly happens when the film is burned right to the end of the disk.

Could updating the firmware help or using better disks ( I was using Datasafe Limited media by Ritek )....and are the FWS 4X disks any good ie ritek dye....dark purple?

    Thanx in advance

  2. I've seen this problem on two occasions. One is where there are minor scratches which you may or may not see on the disk, but are sensitive enough to hinder the ripping within Smart Ripper and/or DVD Decryptor.

I would try a scratch repair solution FIRST, because that has helped me in many occasions. Second, because this happens towards the end each time for you, I think it is because of the burn. Media sometimes has a problems when you use the entire availiable capacity of the disk to burn a movie. I have definitely concluded it is the media after MANY tests, because I've had this problem with different media. Despite what some may think, it isn't just on "cheap" media, because the problem has occurred with expensive Verbatim Media for me as well. At any rate, try the scratch repair first. The thing that is odd though, is that the time that

I have seen this error at about 95% or greater, and it IS the media, your standalone OR your DVD ROM will not be able to play the ending chapters or ending credits of the movie. Fast Forward through the last two chapters of the movie as well as the ending credits and see if there is any freezing or skipping. If there is, then you won't be able to get a full rip no matter what you do. The only other option is to rip the original. If there is no skipping or freezing when you check the movies, then I would try a direct disk to disk burn. Since you are using your "backups" then you won't have to worry about Decryption. You can just burn an exact copy with your burning software.

Simply put the "backup" copy in your DVD ROM and your blank disk in your burner and make an exact copy.

    Hope this helps.
