cce encoding failed: error: video check sum is differnet from that of previous pass. source video data or time code may be differnet. please check video tape or the information file.

You did a conversion before, right? You created at least a specialfilename.vaf. Now you are trying to convert to specialfilename.mpv, but meanwhile you changed the source or some important settings. Correct me if I am wrong.
Change the output file name to differentspecialfilename.mpv. Now CCE will create a new .vaf file (you know: diff.......name.vaf) or just save the specialfilename.vaf to a different directory (or delete it) and every thing should be fine.
    Hope this helps.

  3. Yeh, when I click on encode, it crerates a .vaf first with no probs, then automatically goes on to the .mpv I have not touched or changed anything, its all in one go. I also specify that these files a saved to a different dir. than my captured .avi

havent had time to try out your suggestion as currently at UNI. So are you trying to say this:
change the .vaf name to somehting different to the avi's name then it will work? not quite sure from your initial explanation, thanks.

    Excuse me for confusing you.
I thought, the cce encodes on the base of an old .vaf.
But this case seems to be different. Forget the rubbish, that I wrote above.
    Let me try to understand.
After starting encode cce creates a .vaf file without problems. When it is finished, cce starts to encode to .mpv automatically.
Do you get the error message at that point or later?

Ninja_N, if you are running W2K, I had the same problem. Try feeding the AVI file to CCE through VFAPI version 1.03b. That did it for me.

Radioman: interesting patch, I will try it out.
