I have read the forums and tried just about everything to get sound off of some of my movies that are AC3 encoded.
I have tried uninstalling allmost all my codecs, and just installing DivX5 bundle, and AC3 codec..Moonlight Decota or something...
I get wonderful video quality but no sound. I cant play any movies from WMP9, but I know that is normal, and hardly anyone is happy with it. I play most of my files usinf DivX player v2 and realplayer. Cyberlink PowerDVD will only play DVD's and one other type.
Its all a bit of a mess really, like this message, so sorry in advance (and thanx too).

the fact is there is no real ac3 codec. theres only a filter that will allow it to play through DirectSound (used in most software dvd players and Windown Media player).

open file in virtual dub, go to audio check direct stream copy. then go to filemenu and save as wav. change the extension of .wav to .ac3
then open ac3 file in headac3he. convert ac3 file to wav. then open oriGinal movie in virtual dub again go to audio and check source from wav. find new wav you made with headac3he and click ok. then go to file menu and save as avi. the new avi will play in your players but will be about 700 mb larger because the sounD IS UNCOMPRESSED.
