You feed by frameserving CCE, using avisynth or Vdub. The source must be resized to 352 X 576/480 first. Also, detect the field order.

You can also select 'Half Horizontal Resolution' under your Video options. This scales the video down to 352. There is also an option for 'Half Vertical Resolution', which scales the vertical, giving you every variation, except for SVCD. For SVCD, you would need to frameserve, or edit your avi previously.

NOTE: the Horizontal option works for both D1, and CCIR-601 resolutions (704x480, and 720x480 respectively), giving you 352x480 for either, if you select this option.

Yes, you can, but if I remember correct, it is much faster (and more stable) to frameserve your source when you use CCE as an encoder.

It is like TMPGenc: You can load mpeg 2 files direct, but it is way better frameserve with DVD2avi for many many reasons.

I haven't experienced any loss in speed or quality on the latest versions of CCE (2.64, or 2.66). I can't speak for 2.50 though, as I never tried it there.

There is usually an increase in speed, when CCE is fed a raw avi, rather than a frameserved avi. I'd have to run a few resize tests to be sure. I'll run a few samples through it today, and post the results, if I have time.

I ran the test, using a sample avi, I created using the TRIM command and AVISynth. I fed this into VirtualDub, to create a DivX AVI, that was 1:28 seconds long.

I created an AVISynth script, using the following:

    AVISource("test.avi")
    BicubicResize(352,480)

I loaded this into CCE, with no options selected on the Video tab. The encode took 1 minute, 5 seconds.

I then loaded the TEST.AVI directly into CCE, and selected the Half Horizontal Resolution option. The encode to 53 seconds.

Quality appeared identical between the two clips.
