  1. I'm a newbie, I only know how to copy DVD to DVDRs. However, I own a PAL DVD that I really want to convert to NTSC DVDR, can anybody help me?

The how-to post on how to convert PAL to NTSC using TMPeng (or something to that effect) is not clear for me.

Is there a single app that can do the conversion straight from .VOB files?

My guess is (this is a guess) that you will have to encode the dvd to avi. Then change the video framerate using virtual dub. Change the audio frame rate using besweet.exe & besweet GUI. Join the video & audio back together using virtual dub. Finally encode using your favourite MPEG encoder.

    NO!

You'll have to rip the DVD onto your HD, run DVD2avi to create a DVD2Avi project and the frameserve your project for an MPG Encoder. Right now I'm making a NTSC->PAL conversion with Canopus Procoder, the DVD is being frameserved with VFAPI. Procoder is pretty slow, it's been running for 140 hours already and will finish tomorrow (But Im' using Mastering Quality 2 pass encoding).

A somewhat faster conversion can be done with avisynth + CCE. You can find conversion scripts for avisynth @ http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/index.html#Conversions

  4. Just a thought.....

Do you really need to convert it?

My DVD player will play both PAL and NTSC. Yours may too!

  5. well, I can play it on my PC no problem, but none of my standalone player can play it. Either way, even if my player can play it, the player should still be able to convert it (internally) to NTSC since my HDTV doesn't accept PAL input
