Need to convert .vob to .m2v and .ac3 files so i can use them in spruce up.
I have tried going directly to .m2v and .ac3 from the dvd but with these sections of the movie i am unsuccessful.
Any ideas on what i can

you could use TMPGEnc to do it just to to mpeg tools under simple de multiples and it will create the m2v and ac3 files....

thank you but still got a problem...I got the m2v and ac3 files but i got the same error that i got before when i tried to get them directly from dvd
"cannot locate a frame SYNC word at an expected byte offset. Data might be corrupted."
I am able to get the video but the sound doens't come out
any ideas -
I normally just use smartripper:
1) Click on stream processes
2) Click on enable stream processes
3) Click on the m2v/video file and choose demux, then click on the audio stream you want and click demux for it (remember you have to select demux for each stream seperately)
4) Click run
This will rip the DVD (or if you already ripped it produce) the m2v and ac3 files. -
how big is the moive? could it fit on a dvd? If so just run it though ifoedit. so it can make new ifo and bup files. then just burn.

First to Vejita

well you are going to lose all the extras but will be able to keep the main movie. not sure if thats what you want to do. all you do is rip the main movie vobs ifos and bups files. the the ifo file into ifoedit ant it will strip out the extra audio tracks and other things. it will make new vob ifo and bup files. then all you have to is burn ...

well it is a dvd of just special features and for a couple of them they dont work. I have been able get some of them to rip successfully but the rest i can only get vob that work
The ones that dont work i get video but no sound
Any ideas -
Yup. Wulf's got it. So will VOBrator. It comes with a handy 'demux' option, giving you seperate video/audio files, or you can resave the VOB, and optionally strip of all the extra gak you won't want, like subtitles, copyright warnings, trailers, extra languages, etc.
Wulf, does VOBEdit allow you to load all of the VOB's, and output one M2V from them, or will it only do one at a time? The description says it will, but I've never tried it.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
Yes,it has an option to process complete set. Input 6 vob's and will output one .m2v for the whole file set.

Do I need a degree in German to do it? I haven't played with it, but I remember loading it, and finding that most of the menu's were in German. After that, I didn't pay it much mind. I could see how it would be useful if you first stripped out enough extra's to fit your project on a DVD-R, and then used VOBEdit to give you a quick M2V, and AC3 file. It would save the whole frameserving step with DVD2AVI.
Can you post a quick English walkthrough of the menu selections to do this?Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
i used dvd2avi when i used to do all that. simple as anything. all you do is tell it to load the first vob file and itll select all vobs within that directory. then you hit Save Project and wait around 20 minutes or so and you will get your m2v and ac3 file. ive never used vobedit or any of that stuff, so i cat give my input on that. good luck

DVD2AVI only produces AVI, project files, and Audio Extracts. It does not produce MPEG. The ability combine all of the VOB's into one stream, and then extract the M2V, and AC3 removes the need to frameserve, or convert the MPEG, saving a loss in quality.
It makes me wonder why they don't design a codec, which uses a container for the compressed material. The compressed material would be displayed according to the container settings. The container could then be edited, while the compressed material remained untouched. The fact that we can encode faster than realtime is certainly a good indicator that there is enough cpu horsepower to handle a task like this. Of course, each frame would have to be sized/tweaked to meet the container specs. It would make the format extremely portable.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
