  1. Hi,

New to DVD burning. I've done all the steps to backup a DVD I have at home. The files are now on my HD.

I loaded Nero, created a new DVD-video project, and copied the .VOB/.IFO/.BUP files to the project.

    Clicked the Burn button.

Now, the only speed available is 1X. I'm supposed to have 2X media (actually, that's what I want to check).

    How do I get 2X speed ?

Other questions : Is Nero the best to burn DVD videos, or am I wasting time here ?

Also, is there a page on this site that explains burning in detail for each software package (Nero, Prassi, etc...) ?

My main applications will be 1- backup my current DVDs, and 2- capture VHS tapes and burn them to DVD...

    Thanks.

I have a Pioneer A04, and for both our drives it is in the firmware. Pioneer has limited the speeds on certain brands because they claim the DVD-R/RW disc doesn't burn well at the higher speeds. This is supposed to limit the errors on low quality media. You can download earlier firmware versions that allow your media to be burnt at the higher speeds or search for hacked firmware.

I have spoken to people who have done this and they have had no problems burning on certain media. I personally think this might be Pioneer's way of trying to get you to buy their discs.

  5. I've tried Princo 2x rated, and it's seen as 2x, Princo 1x and seen as 1x, Verbatim 4x and seen as 4x. No problem here, but I'm using A05

  6. I've got CMC media. On the Pioneer site, one of the CMC brand media is said to be 2X compatible. However, the Media ID of my disks is not the same as the one in the table...

Firmware on my A05 has not been modified : 1.00.

Where is a good source for hacked/official firmware upgrades ?
