I recently downloaded *****See the forum rules on warez*****, and after extracting the audio in VirtualDub i opened it up in TMPGEnc as this movie is quite long i wasnt to sure what to convert it to ie: VCD or SVCD upon testing different bitrate's......it seems to be telling me that if i set the svcd bitrate at 1176 for a 71mins piece of film....it says the filesize will be 729mb which is just enough to fit on a cdr......now i thought if i use vcd instead i will be able to get a higher Bitrate ie: lower rez=lower filesize, but it seems to give me the same bitrate & filesize for the same length of film ??????
am i just being stupid or is there something im missing ??

Bitrate x time = filesize. Nothing else comes into the equation.
So if you have a bitrate of 1150kbps and you encode for 1 second you will have 1150kb of data, irrespective of the format you are encoding to. -
your missing my point.....i think?
svcd / MPEG-2 480x576 25fps / 44100hz/ bitrate 1178/71 mins =730mb
vcd / MPEG-1 352x288 25fps / 44100hz/ bitrate 1178/71 mins =730mb
That is what TMPGEnc is telling me ??? how can that be right ??? should'nt it be a lower file size due to the lower resolution -
exactly wut he said above...
what ever res or format you pick, there will only be 1178 kb of data for 1 sec.
And thats why with CBR, if you know the length you can choose kb/sec and end up w/that file size you wanted.
i want 730mb video file...71mins long so...730mb/71min=1178kb/sec
changing res or format only changes how the bytes are used, basicly. -

The higher the resolution you use the greater the bitrate you need otherwise the picture quality will actually look worse.
