Get VCDGearGUI, load the AVSEQ.dat (located in the MPEGAV directory) and convert it to .mpg. For further conversion there are many tools (depens on mpeg typ, TMPG, Vdub or even flaskMPEG).

If all you want is to copy a VCD, a simple CD copying program will do it for you (e.g., included in Nero or Easy Cd Creator).
Other good programs to use include CloneCD and CDR-Win.

Well to RIP OFF Vcd's, first you must find a store that sells them.. then you do the "Five Fingered Discount" Good luck, not to many stores in the U.S. sell VCDs..
Good luck with your quest to RIP OFF Vcd's!!!
Sorry, it was too tempting...
Really just follow the directions.. and VCD gear works great to convert the VCD bin files to mpg.
If you want to convert SVCD's... I have found that you just copy the AVSEQ.mpg from the MPEG2 directory to your hard drive, then de-multiplex, then multiplex....Fixes syncing issues, etc...

the .dat files stored in the VCDs are basically the same as normal MPEG-1 .mpg files. if you need to store it on your hdd, just copy the .dat file from the VCD to your hdd (regular CD-ROM is ok). if you wanna copy that VCD, use nero's VCD option to copy the .dat file. if you want your copied VCD to be able to play on a standalone DVD player, make sure you use nero's VCD option to burn the .dat file from the original VCD. just copying the files from the original VCD and burning those files as a data CD will NOT work. the standalone dvd player will think of the copied VCD as a audio CD.

On the same thread, what if I have an MPEG2 file (SVCD compliant) that I have burned to a CD to archive. If I want to convert it back to a file I can drop on the Premiere timeline (AVI of some type), how do I do that?
