Heres the thing, encoding dl avi movie(divx) with tmpg, movie is aprox 1 1/2 hrs long, setup tmpg to encode for dvd.( i am experienced in encoding with tmpg and know settings) but heres the weird thing, when i start encoding it shows encode time of about 3 1/2 hrs(very slow for my dual 2400 system). so fine, problem is when i check finished mpv(encoding video only) tmpg has encoded about 2 hrs beyond end of movie, it doesnt matter what settings or template i use it encodes beyond end of this movie. Figured i would just use tmpg to cut end off end of movie, but tmpg gives me error when trying to edit m2v. Any other good software out there to cut m2v or anybody have any idea what would be wrong with this avi that would make tmpg do this?

  2. The very same thing happened to me last night! I encoded just the video in m2v and TMPG encoded beyond the end of the movie. Maybe this is a bug the shows up if you encode only video in mpeg2 and no audio at the same time. Some others have reported insane file sizes when encoding video in TMPG and I heard that if you manually select the beginning and end of your movie file in the Source range section (meaning: change the end frame choice of -1 to the actual last frame value of your movie) and that worked for those guys. Another thing, I encoded as an ES(video only) stream. Maybe if I had chosen System(video only) I would have avoided this. I thought I would be able to cut the video but I'm thinking that I'm going to have problems as you did. Oh well, I might just re-encode.

I think there's an issue with AVIs with VBR audio and TMPGEnc. Try frame serving it with VirtualDub (after extracting the audio to WAV).
