  1. I've got a whole bunch of old tapes which are worn out over the years. I need to preserve them in CD format but i don't know how to begin with. Does anybody know ho to convert VHS to VCD, DVD???? Thanks in advance

  2. Take a look at the guides to the left for 1) Capture, 2) Convert and 3) Author.

Basically what you'll need to do is buy a capture card to capture your video on your HD. You'll then be able to edit the video as necessary (if at all), encode it (to MPEG1 for VCD or MPEG2 for SVCD or DVD). Then author/burn the movie to disc (CDR or DVDR).

If you don't want to do anything to fancy just buy a standalone DVD recorder and plug your VCR into that. Or buy a capture card that captures/encodes to MPEG on the fly (a good cheap card for this is the AverDVD EZMaker for ~$50).

There are also reviews of capture cards to the left.
