  1. I looked through the archives and could only find reference to this in the topic about not being able to play your dvd in a player if you used nero to burn.

I have made about 10 dvd backups using Nero and burning through the dvd video option. I currently have the latest version of nero.

There was an argument that you needed to burn in the udf or udf/iso using the 1.02 udf format to get your dvd to burn right but there was also a discussion that nero messes up the order of your .vob .ifo and .bup files.

I used dvd decrypter to rip the dvd-5 that I had and it worked fine. When I try to copy each individual file into the VIDEO_TS folder it messes the order up, whe I try select all and transfer them it messes the order up, even when trying to move the whole folder over it messes the order up.

My question is: Will this rearrangement of files affect the playback of the dvd from one player to another?

Case in point. I backed up Goldmember how I have done other dvds that have ended up working. This time the dvd worked in my dvd drive on the computer but would even be recognized by my toshiba standalone (very new standalone not older). I haven't had a chance to check it on any other players but am concerned that after I did everything right Nero screwed things up by messing with the order of the files.

it went from (of course they were uppercase but I was lazy when typing them)
    video_ts.bup
    video_ts.ifo
    video_ts.vob
    vts_01_0.bup
    vts_01_0.ifo
    vts_01_0.vob
    vts_01_1.vob
    etc.... for the next vts_02, 3, 4

    and spit out
    video_ts.ifo
    video_ts.vob
    video_ts.bup
    vts_01_0.ifo
    vts_01_0.vob
    vts_01_1.vob
    vts_01_0.bup

it is putting the .bup at the end of the sequence and won't let me change them. If I am just confusing myself please let me know as this is pissing me off!

    Thanks,
    Nathan

If you use the "DVD Video" template in NERO, then it will organize your files into the CORRECT order. If you use the UDF/ISO option, then you are on your own as to getting the files in the correct order. And, to be 100% DVD complient, the files MUST be in the correct order, which

    video_ts.ifo
    video_ts.vob
    video_ts.bup
    vts_01_0.ifo
    vts_01_0.vob
    vts_01_1.vob
    vts_01_0.bup

seem to be. A DVD is a FILE STRUCTURE, and NOT a FILE SYSTEM. There are a lot of new players that will treat the files as if they were in the proper structure (RErder) to be played and plays the DVD-R. However, not all new players do this.

The new NERO is said to now burn Video DVDs using the proper UDF 1.02 format, which should make your burns compatible on all players that will play DVD-Rs.

  3. I say just burn with Imgtools under high compatability mode. I've never been able to playback a burned dvd in my standalone (although it is older) using nero, almost never had a problem with imgtools. Also, it will re-allocate the dvd structure if you need to.
