    How about:

I prepare a short sample of music (~30 secs) and place up an uncompressed version, an MP3 compressed and then decompressed version, WMA decompressed version, etc. and see if people can work out which is the original? Fun or boring?

Sounds fun, but hard to implement. The voting on the main page goes only by the choices, so the voters would have to enter the forum and listen then vote. Try it in the audio forum though. It should cause some discussion.

    The Internet will...

    1. be a vital source of daily information for decades to come.
    2. become the center of all human knowledge
    3. be a valueable media distribution platform
    4. continue to get pimped up with ads and porn by greedy dot-comers
    5. not survive the nuclear holocaust
    6. not be useful until there is a 6 inch fibre optics line to TGPO's house.

The name of this place should be:

    1. dvdrhelp.com
    2. dvdcopy.com
    3. videodisc.com
    4. novcrzone.com
    5. screwmpaa.com
    6. tgpo 5

The most shameful DVD marketing practice:
    1. Producing 'Best of' sets instead of complete seasons (warner)
    2. Offering complete seasons as one package after selling individual episodes (paramount)
    3. Calling 'Artwork on Disc' a special feature (Disney)
    4. No chapters (goodtimes)
    5. Regional Coding (mpaa)
    6. RCE (warner)
    7. One 30min episode per dvd @ $20 (some anime)
    8. Advertising 'uncensored' or 'unrated' and still having nudity blurs and profanity beeps(mtv, comedy central)
    9. Sitting on classic libraries (prince planet: mgm; marine boy: warner)
    10. Touting a film as being on TGPO's top 10,000 list

And just because a poll was done several years ago, does not mean it can't be done again. Perhaps the underlying situations have changed, ie opsys (does anyone still use fat/fat32 if they don't have to), computer mfg (name brands don't necessarily suck anymore), r/rw drive type (dvdr/rw: last poll $600, now under $200),

I'd have to add to the most shameful DVD marketing practice list:
Releasing a movie on DVD with just the movie (and maybe a trailer), then releasing the same movie on DVD with special features (deleted scenes, bloopers, making of, etc.) a year or so later.
Releasing something on VHS only, then a year or so later releasing it on DVD (think Star Wars Episode I).
Releasing any movie on DVD that doesn't have TGPO in it

How about: "What did you do while drdrhelp.com was down?"

    answers could include things like:

    - slummed around on doom9
    - sought professional medical treatment
    - learned a whole new language
    - finished DIY or other project that's needed doing for years now
    - actually let someone else in the house get a turn on 'puter

    stuff like that :c)

could be pretty funny and.......... enlightening! :cD

Thanks for posting my prior idea. :c)

One thing I've been wondering about is how many site visitors are:
    - now involved in or
    - plan to be involved in

DVD production/transfer, video editing, etc. for profit

And how many are doing it:

    - strictly as a hobby or
    - for friends & relatives only.

plus a must have TGPO option, of course! :c)

Follow-up to current rental period poll...

Do you ever copy your rentals to temporary media (to be erased after watching) to get out paying late fees and/or get more movie faster?

    Yes - harddrive only
    Yes - RW
    Yes - Other
No - That would be un-ethical
No - That would be illegal
    TGPO rules my rental world!
The proceeding was an opinion. Standard disclaimers apply. Despite what is written, the writer makes no claim to advocacy of illegal actions. Any allusion of advocacy of illegal actions is a subjective illusion of the reader.
